You were supposed to be its first Premier Fanta. I just figured we could overtake Canada with Canadians. You know, and keep from getting our hands dirty!! Ummmmmm, how about NO!!! The Swiss have the right idea. All able-bodied Swiss males aged between 19 and 31 must serve, and although entry to recruit school may be delayed due to senior secondary school, it is no longer possible to postpone it for university studies. About one third is excluded for various reasons, and these either serve in Civil Protection or Civilian Service. and they love doing it. After their basic training, it is actually called a "Green holiday" They get to dress up in battle dress, yomp around the mountains, skiing, shooting at each other and generally having fun. They get paid their normal wage, all their daily expenses and then a stipend for attending. They have the highest gun-to-citizen ratio in the world and the lowest gun crime stats. They get to take home their automatic rifles and store them in the cupboard and the rounds are stored elsewhere. Even the women enjoy the "Green Holiday" yep looks like every one should do this |

Male : Age: 23 Ah ha,,, I see where your coming from now!!!   If it is me you are talking about, Do not assume you know where I am coming from and dont assume you know me either. Your assumptions will lead you to the wrong conclusions. Ok, I'll grant you the openness of mind! That was a cheap shot! If my assumptions were leading me to the wrong conclusions, in what way would my assumptions be wrong? What have you given back for the freedoms you enjoy! If you have already served I apologize!!!  The only reason I havent served is a past heart condition that, in their words "is to much of a risk" . Buch of bull**** if you ask me. When thy told me that I could serve It killed me. My brother was alredy in afganistan at the time so it hit me kind of hard to know I couldnt do my part. Since I cant serve I volentere with local veterans organizations from time to time. |

I read with amusement how everybody loves the rights given to them in our country, but hardly anyone wants to serve, or have their children serve. This just leads me to the question in the title, if not you, your children, or your friends, then who serves? Who should serve? I will answer first; I believe that if we are to send young women and men of this country into a hostile area the lower economic classes should not unfairly shoulder the majority of the burden. I truly believe that there should be a draft system that is fair across the board, or mandatory service should be in place for all citizens between 18-22, even if it is national guard. Your thoughts? Mandatory service? You mean take away our freedom of choice? We apparently have enough people in the military. They are actually cutting back the amount of people they let in. I learned this from an air force recruiter when I was thinking about working for the military with my engineering degree. I would have much rather go to college then spend 4 years in the military. Hell, I was gonna have to get all these special permissions to get in just because of my medical condition. Either way, mandatory military service = not good idea. |
