Go green plant a garden, we fish and hunt for meat,I know everybody can't hunt. Some good cleaning products can be made from things in your pantry. The dollar stores at times do sell name brands so why pay more at another store. Hair products can also come from the pantry or ask friends what works best that might be less expensive than your hairdressers products. We will all have to change buying habits due to rising gas prices.

You make a very good point !flowerforyou

OMG, I'm a brand name die hard to the core almost sorry but if I'm going to eat it I want something that is worth eating. I have tried some generic brands. But most can not compare to the brand name. Some can veggies I will go the generic but my cabnits are brand name. Shhshs like butter it is either I Can Not Believe It Is Butter or nothing. Yeah my kids laugh at me for that one but hey if it touches this tongue I want it to taste good not just a filler.bigsmile

what about other things like cleaning products , laundry
soap etc.? Do you need brand names for them as well ?I do for laundry soap.

Afraid to admit it but yep same thing there as well have tried the cheaper brands but now I like Cheer with the Frebreeze in it use the Mr Clean for cleaning now my window cleaner not as picky I buy the cheaper one. I have found out that the name brands in most stuff are a better deal. I will try the cheaper if it works as well I will change. If not I go back to my name brand items. But.. now lots of the name brand you can find cheaper at the General Dollar stores just have to look.

We have a friend in Toronto we hope to see this summer, my boyfriend talks with her often.I was just curious. He has a 4x4 double cab and doesn't worry about gas prices when it comes to traveling, but getting to work he complains. We are both fortunately finacially secure. But, we chose to live green because it's rewarding to us.

My local news channel showed a story about a website called thegrocerygame.com. The lady that they interviewed was from a family of four and saved at least $250/month on groceries. She was saving between half off the item up to getting it free.

Here is what the site says about itself:

What is The Grocery Game?
The Grocery Game is a website that can save you hundreds of dollars on grocery bill each month. Log in, spend a few minutes with a pair of scissors, and you're off to win The Grocery Game!

When you play, you'll get a weekly list (called Teri's List) of the lowest-priced products at your supermarket matched with manufacturers' coupons and weekly specials -- advertised and unadvertised. The Grocery Game does all the hard work and research, and presents it to you in a straightforward format.

I haven't completely checked it out yet, but after seeing the interview, it does sound like something I might try.
