I go to the doctor
Then sit there and WIsh
That I could be
A beautiful fish

Then I could swim
There in the tank
And not worry bout money
That's not in the bank

They take me back
Not a look at my face
Then shut me in
A tiny space

I sit there and wait
For the doc to come in
He shakes my hand
And gives a cold grin

I sit there and think
Bout water and bubbles
Where I would have
Many less troubles

He looks and listens
Sticks and pokes
Then he makes
Some stupid jokes

He sends me home
With pills to take
And a few kind words
For posterity's sake

Water and food
And a little air
If I was a fish
For all I would care

But I am a woman
Stuck in this place
Dreaming of fish
What a disgrace

One of these days
My body will be whole
Then I won't dream
Of swimmin in a bowl
