My question: Why is it that my laptop, as of April, no longer plays dvd movies?

If I play a dvd using vlc, nothing happens. If I use windows media player, I get a message that says "incompatible decoder." It occurred to me that an update would solve my problem, since I had just moved and had been without internet. So I updated, but still the same thing.

I have a Lite-on DVDRW SHW-160 P6S drive. I have been burning dvds with DVD-R disc and had no problems, now there is a problem.

My drive no longer seems to read my DVD-R disc as useable, but will use a DVD+RW.

I had opened a new 50 pk of DVD-R and used about 20 of them and they worked fine. I tried the DVD-R disc in my son's computer and they worked there.
I went to Lite-on site for a firmware update, when I tried to use it the update stated I had a Lite-on DVDRW SHW-160 P6S P9S1 drive so there was no update available.

How good is a BFG 8600 GT (OC) versus that of the BFG 7950 GT (OC)?

Bored... Figured I'd attempt at taking one.



The main difference is the 8600 can do DX10 while the 7950 can't.

They say the 7950 is better at DX9 games, though... So it depends on what your planning to play.

and click on " Descarca acum " and then again on " Descarca programul acum " < the page is romanian , the software in english > , it`s a codec pack , it should work on 99 % of the movies , if it doesn`t work you should save your data files and go for a clean format , i said that because VLC player works without any codec installed .

and download that firmware , anyway try and burn another type of dvd`s , like Memorex or Philips , if it doesn`t work you should buy another drive

The 7950GT is the high-end of the 7 series and is high-performance. The 8600GT is mid-range 8 series card. The 7950 will own the 8600 in DirectX9 but if you ever plan to upgrade to Vista and want to play DX10 games you'll be out of luck with the 7950GT.

My antivirus (avg 7.5) is about to expire by tomorrow. Could you give me a link to a free, downloadable (vista friendly) antivirus? Plus, I'm looking for a book, audio and cd cataloging program for our department's multimedia room. Could you give me a suggestion or two?

Does it have a inability to play DX9 games, or will it just not play them as smoothly as the 7950?

the main house computer is on wirless internet and my so called electronic genius roomate is using this little router thing that plugs into the front of my pc in the usb slot that is suposed to give me wireless through the main computer but it will only stay up for like an hour and i don't know how to reconnect it when it goes down and my phone is through magic jack on my pc so i not only don't have service in my room but no phone either.....what can i do to reconnect it
