Totally agree with you Tanya.God spelled eith a capitol lets people know that it's not a god[an idol]

that's fine for those who believe in that god but for those who don't it should be optional. It's not disrespectful for someone outside of your faith to write it any way they chose. Maybe their god is an idol.

I was referring to the God that is known by Christians and Jews.

What if you don't happen to be a Christian or a Jew?

Then your god is different from my God, and I don't have a problem with that. I recognize that their are ppl with different spiritual beliefs and completely respect that. My best friend in high school was wiccan. I am talking to someone who we plan to meet that is wiccan. I have friends that are jewish, muslim and atheist.

What happened was last night, someone im'ed me. And when I mentioned that I had a son. He made the comment that boys were better than girls. Which somehow got on the topic of God making man first, then women. And that person clearly was referring to the Bible. This is what tipped off me posting this thread.

OH, I see. I have a girl. Good thing he didn't IM me!

since christians refer to Jesus as being God and Jews maybe disagreeing with that means that the God in the New Testament is not the same one that is in The Old Testament ..didn't god tell Moses his name was "I AM" ..I may be wrong but I don't remember anything about god telling Moses to call him god or spell god with a capital "G"

Thats a good point. I wonder if the original language even dealt with using capital letters at all?

ok... doesn't anyone else find it disrespectful when ppl spell God with a lower case g?

maybe its just me and my religious background.

It depends on the context.

Also, not everyone believes in God, and we must respect that as well. JMO

Time ago i found it disrespectful
Nowadays it's the same for me. Arrogance knows no boundaries, so i've decided to let it be.

People who don't capitalize the "g" are arrogant?

Must everyone conform to the dictates of your religion whether they believe in it or not?

I mistakenly thought this was a public forum, not a private conversation between you and the OP. But your rudeness has proven me wrong. You people brook no dissent whatsoever, do you? Scary.

The OP's question can be answered in a very easy manner.

When you are talking about a god, you don't capitalize it. It is like talking about a mom or a dad.

BUT

When you use it as a name, then you capitalize it.

Where did Mom go? <----> That is capitalized, because you are using it as a name. You are using it in place of her name, so it is supposed to be capitalized.

My mom went to the store. <---- That is not capitalized because you are simply identifying the relationship of the subject (mom) to you. (Your mom.)

THEREFORE;

My god is an awesome god. Technically this does not require capitalization, as there are many gods in myth and history.

What did God do in the garden. <------ requires capitalization because it is used in place of a name.

JB

This is the correct way to do it. You do not capitalize the word in accordance to whether you think a god is the one true god or not.

Also:
If you are one of those who claim that there is only one god, and it is your god and insist that the word god always be capitalized out of respect for your belief, then you are being rather pushy and obnoxious I think.

the original language clearly didn't have the letter "G" in it ..that's just christianity attempt to further steal the religion of the Jews ....first they replace the god with their god then replace the old testament with the new testament and then replaced "I Am" with god and now want god to be spelled with a capital "G" or it is considered as being dispectful ..but yet don't consider changing the jewish religion dispectful

Ah, another post lumping all Christians into one hate group because one of them said something to you that you didn't like? I would not think that all non-Christians are rude, arrogant, hateful asses (donkeyslaugh  ) because it would not be true. Maybe TLW has seen your claim of being tolerant of what people believe fall waaaaay short of the mark and simply doesn't want to engage in discussions with you? Just a guess but the business card on your desk that says Tolerance Inc. is overshadowed by the billboard over your shoulder depicting Christians being ridiculed.flowerforyou
