Is it really so hard to just simply not go into a thread or forum that you don't like???? I hear alot o "bible thumping" and "being shoved down people's throats" etc on here. I can understand if it is brought into the other forums (I try to keep them separate). but why go into this forum or certain threads just to complain it's being shoved down your throats???? seems to me that those people would be shoving it down their own throats. Of course I'm not referring to those that want to debate on beliefs etc. I enjoy learning new things and debating...but I CHOOSE TO COME IN HERE. If I didn't like it...I would stay out. Debate is fine but what is with the childish comments to any beliefs, christian or non????

can someone explain this because I don't get it

Hmm well I personally keep my religion to my self, I am a christian but I dont try to force it down others throats or even talk aboiut it much unless im asked.
I see were you're coming from though if they honestly dont like it, then dont come into this part of the forum, and those who are pushing it outside of the forum really shouldnt.
People are entitled to there points of view and shouldnt have to listen to some thing they dont want to.
So I say as long as im not one of the ones doing it, then I have nothing to worry about.

I'm not even talking about the topic starters. everyone has a right to start threads about their beliefs. I enjoy other threads and beliefs. I, also, have no problem with the debates of different beliefs. I'm talking about those that say it's shoved down their throats online....doesn't simply not going into them keep that from happening???? just seems to me that they shove it down their own throats because they chose to read a thread. i agree it doesn't need to be brought into other forums....that is why there is a religion forum. ohwell

this is a forum to discuss your beliefs..so any beliefs (no matter what they are) are welcomed...but that doesn't make it shoving it down the throat

Specially on a dating sight... Where, at least when you first meet someone, it would be the better part of Valor, to impress them... instead of berate them.
I've been thinking lately, that those who really want to fall in love on this sight, but, for some reason don't... or at least both people don't, start to become bitter.
So many people ask, "Why they should care what people think of them"...
Well, because this is a dating sight...
and, like Rose said... if you don't care what people think, or how your words might effect them...
Then like all the (good) mothers told us...
If you don't have something nice to say...
go to your room... and no more computer for you...
until you learn how to get along with the rest of the sight.

Any personal remark, wether opinion, or statement, that is meant to degrade, is just not necessary.

I agree. There are people that don't like politics...they stay out of those threads...they don't accuse people of progaganda etc.

I fully realize that people disagree in this forum..that's part of debate...but come on...why stress yourself out about a topic if you don't want to????

did this forum become manditory recently???

Lol... Well, I didn't get picked up by the cops for skipping...
First time I've been here.

Do they have a Mormon thread? Lol...

Besides, what they are really doing, is using the fact that someone made a brief mention of it, in their outside world, to be able to shove it down the throats of those who are actually in the right place for it.
So a probable short 2 minute discussion outside of the thread, has now given them the right to take that 2 minute throat shove they got,
and give the ones here, a 30 min throat shove...
as lovely as that sounds.

actually there are mormon threads here...as well as many different kinds of others. i gues my point is...if youcome into a thread...you bring it on yourself. people are going to use what they know in a debate from all sides. but people have the ability to click out of here or not come into a thread/forum at all....just like you can walk away or decide not to listen in real life. i go into alot of forums to learn...i try to ask questons about others beliefs to understand better, but i choose that.

And I'm SURE (seriously) that you don't start knocking them, or the idea, just because you don't agree with their viewpoint...
Otherwise, how would you learn anything...
Someone that does that, comes under false pretenses...
Not to hear someone elses opinions, but, to hear their own.

Their opinion is already set, and cannot be swayed... let alone, added to, or even simply questioned themselves.

Well..
Never too hard, especially when you can choose not to even see the forums you dont want.
But there'll always be haters.
And people who love to yell at others, personally for me I dont even understand religion so I dont post much lol, me a non-believer BUT I don't hate.

I am spritual but not religious, so I tend to stay away from this forum as well. Sometimes there is a topic such as this that piques my interest and I will post. I am not here to argue with people about their beliefs or mine. I have seen people come in here just to yell about prosletyzing when they could in fact just not read the thread.

Ben, it is good to see you about so frequently all of a sudden!flowerforyou

hiker....you are right and you choose to read threads or not. I just don't get people that go into a thread and complain that's it is pushed on the...it's a religious forum for all beliefs or non-beliefs. people will debate/argue/whatever what they know. i have certain forums unchecked because i'm not interested or do not care for them. i don't go in there and say things lol. if someone goes into a thread then why complain??? they have choices. dunno..just don't get it i guess

But I have to say that I have seen people come into the other forums and start preaching their religion. There are some people who do it all the time. It is annoying. We should be able to talk about whatever we want in the general forum and not have Christians come in and tell us we are disrespecting their God. The "don't read the thread" idea works both ways.

I agree. I said in the first post I can see a problem if it is taken to other forums.

If I go into a thread....it's on me then if I choose to debate. it does go both ways..you are very right about that. goes both ways as far as forums and beliefs go. not arguing with you there at all

but why go into this forum or certain threads just to complain it's being shoved down your throats????

Because these are supposed to be discussion forums and were never meant to be used as free advertisements or a free podium for preaching a specific religion. There are churches that people can become affiliated with if they want to do that.

From the rules for the Religion forums,…

“Also, topics which are designated for response exclusively from one
religion or belief system, or which may cause that type of polarization,
will be deleted. The concept behind these forums is to encourage anyone
to participate and post their opinions and thoughts as long as they are
on-topic. Topics which do not adhere to that philosophy will be
removed, and the poster may lose his/her posting privileges.”

To claim that a particular religion is the “Only pathway to God” is against the rules. Especially when a thread is started with a post that makes this claim specifically and doesn’t appear to be interested in any discussion about it. That’s is what is meant by ’shoving it down people’s throats’

It’s one thing to state that someone believes this for themselves, but to post it as a proselytizing complain to try to sell a particular belief system is actually nothing more than religious spam.

By the rules threads that are started with that purpose should be deleted actually.

This is a discussion forum, not a free podium to preach a particular religion. If people want to do that they should seek out the appropriate medium. This is not the place to do that.

These forums are meant to be used as a church for any particular religious belief. So those long in-your-face posts that try to claim that a particular religion is the Only way to God are actually breaking the forum rules.

These are discussion forums not preaching forums. That’s an abuse of this medium according to the rules of this medium.

It is not possible to post about religion without creating some type of emotion or opinion. It is too central to how many people live their lives. I don't really see a lot of "shove it down your throat" posters here. Seriously, this place is actually pretty calm in that regard. I do see a lot of (and I'm one of them) people defending their position/belief in the face of those who take a different position. I do agree with the OP here that people should not come here and then be offended by the fact that God is mentioned. But I also agree with Abra that efforts to create a singular pathway to God is not productive or the purpose of the forum.

I enjoy this forum--a lot of the responses are thoughtful and considerate. I've not had anyone try to "convert" me to anything and I've had opportunity to stop and evaluate a number of views. I think the real issue here is about agenda. If someone has an agenda here I think that will show itself immediately. If, on the other hand, someone comes here to discuss and learn then I think regardless of their beliefs they'll make the forums a better place.

Abra, you are awesome.

When I first began browsing and reading your posts, I thought to myself, "Here is a person who speaks for me in so many ways."

Yet you do it with such persistence, patience, intelligence, and awesome clarity.

I have often thought to respond to an issue but I always check for your response first because you always say it much better, and so completely that my two cents are not even needed.

You are my mouthpiece.flowerforyou
