abra...i do get what you are saying...it happens on all sides. right or wrong in doing so. if this is a religious forum and people want to debate/argue/whatever....they will use what they know. again it happens on all sides. but people have a choice to enter a thread or not. if i go in a thread and get bashed etc....who's to blame???? it's going to happen but i chose to go in,,,see what i'm saying?

but why go into this forum or certain threads just to complain it's being shoved down your throats????

Because these are supposed to be discussion forums and were never meant to be used as free advertisements or a free podium for preaching a specific religion. There are churches that people can become affiliated with if they want to do that.

From the rules for the Religion forums,…

“Also, topics which are designated for response exclusively from one
religion or belief system, or which may cause that type of polarization,
will be deleted. The concept behind these forums is to encourage anyone
to participate and post their opinions and thoughts as long as they are
on-topic. Topics which do not adhere to that philosophy will be
removed, and the poster may lose his/her posting privileges.”

To claim that a particular religion is the “Only pathway to God” is against the rules. Especially when a thread is started with a post that makes this claim specifically and doesn’t appear to be interested in any discussion about it. That’s is what is meant by ’shoving it down people’s throats’

It’s one thing to state that someone believes this for themselves, but to post it as a proselytizing complain to try to sell a particular belief system is actually nothing more than religious spam.

By the rules threads that are started with that purpose should be deleted actually.

This is a discussion forum, not a free podium to preach a particular religion. If people want to do that they should seek out the appropriate medium. This is not the place to do that.

These forums are meant to be used as a church for any particular religious belief. So those long in-your-face posts that try to claim that a particular religion is the Only way to God are actually breaking the forum rules.

These are discussion forums not preaching forums. That’s an abuse of this medium according to the rules of this medium.

I agree with u to some point. But u r too general James, not everybody does the same.
Plus people already know who is who.
Therefore, people can choose not to read threads that might be of a proselytizing nature.

The basic problem is that people likes to cry on their own side, yet people don't see that they are doing the exact same thing they criticize just the other way around.
Yet christians are the hypocrites.
It's just contradictory.

from the rules:
"Also, topics which are designated for response exclusively from one religion or belief system, or which may cause that type of polarization,
will be deleted"

If somebody post a topic sharing a personal experience related to his/her belief system. It's not against the rule. It won't cause any kind of polarization becasue this person is just sharing.
However, if somebody comes around with an opening statement such as: "you all are sinners, and you all are going to hell."
well, in that case it's against the rules.
So please let's not take one sentence out of a whole, and put it out of context to fit our feelings.
Let's not be children.

TLW I agree....just don't understand why people can't own up to how they act or the choices they make i guess. it happens on all sides. those that bash, push, whatever....would be in the wrong to me. but it's also wrong to me to say enter like your threads and then complain about all the Bible stuff. or if JB does an alien thread....complain about the aliens stuff. or if anyone does a thread and people complain etc. nobody is being forced to come into certain threads

Does this mean you may only post if you agree?

I think we all know the difference between a discussion and a bashing. Don't we?

And you are right, no body forces you to come in and read a thread. If you don't believe it, and have nothing to contribute or ask or discuss, just keep on moving.

Certainly not. I love disagreements, but I hope that a person posts something more that "I disagree." or "You're obviously delusional" or "Your opinion is a bald faced lie."

(Opinions can not be lies, they are just opinions.)

hiker...who said that???i have no problem with debating and i've tried to learn all sorts of different beliefs. people are going to argue their point based on what they believe in here...again from all sides. i'm not saying one side is wrong or right because all sides do it.

what I am saying...it can't be forced down someone's throats here because people have the choice to ignore, leave or just not comein based on topics...or put in your 2 cents. it's choices. people aren't going to argee. you have the choice to post or walk away. i have many forums unchecked here just because i choose not to go into them

just like in bbw threads...(using myself as an example) i had the choice to not go in, not post, walk away, put in my 2 cents or get upset. if i get upset...who's fault is that???? mine.

i don't think religion should be in all forums. that's why we have several types of forums.

DISCLAIMER
i say these things to all sides...as well as hold myself accountable for my choices

exactly. ty. maybe i wasn't saying it right or something.

if you were to post a topic or just a thread about your beliefs/opinions/? (sorry...not sure how you refer to them)...we have a choice to go in or respond. most people have this forum unchecked from their settings. i have unchecked many forums myself, as well as done my share of debate and asked questions to learn

Oh - it goes without saying that one should disagree politely.

take that one guy (i think I chose to block as name in my mind lol)...his 1st posts was how it's crammed in his face and he was only the first few to respond in there. so since he chose to read it thread anyway....who does he have to blame???? himself. he has the option not to read threads if he feels overwhelmed by them or start his own thread etc. if he opts to post then he did that himself. i guess i'm talking about ownership of actions etc

I'm not even talking about the topic starters. everyone has a right to start threads about their beliefs. I enjoy other threads and beliefs. I, also, have no problem with the debates of different beliefs. I'm talking about those that say it's shoved down their throats online....doesn't simply not going into them keep that from happening???? just seems to me that they shove it down their own throats because they chose to read a thread. i agree it doesn't need to be brought into other forums....that is why there is a religion forum. ohwell

this is a forum to discuss your beliefs..so any beliefs (no matter what they are) are welcomed...but that doesn't make it shoving it down the throat

You are correct. It does seem as though anything is acceptable EXCEPT Christianity. People who believe in Christ are bashed. I don't hold it against anyone but they come in ready to fight with those who do believe then call us bible thumpers etc etc. It's silly....

Come in with an open mind or don't bother. That is what leads to fights.
