I have a few tatoos... and they get raised, and I know it is an allergic reaction to the ink.

And I know almost everyone is allergic to the red ink.

But why does it raise and lower? Sometimes it's smooth, and other times it raises?

my new one turned red adn was raised.. didnt use red ink but blue and green.. it took one week but the red is gone and it doesnt hurt anymore.. now its starting to itch like hell..

Not sure, all mie have lots of color in them and have never raised

May be the ink, possibly not deep enough in the skin?

Get that now and again with the outline of one of mine.heat seems affect it at times.But other tan that ya got me.Have one with the red,but never had it with that one

scar tissue will do that...

A tat should not raise the skin except when it is fresh...maybe over sun exposure or something else....maybe want to get some medical attention

I have 5 tattoos..all of them have red in them....I believe that they raise because the tattoo artist went too deep with the needle or just natural swelling...usually causing scar tissue

Last tatto i got i snapped, it got little red pimples all over my tat so i went to the hospital to get tested i thought i got some kinda disease, But it just ended up being a allergic reation thank god

I have one I've had for over 10 years that only raises on occasion.

I have one I've had for about 4 years...and that one raises...but only the black part, and then it goes back down and raises again.

I have another one I've only had for less than 2 years... and that one never raises.

May not have been done right or there's something wrong with the ink. I have red,blue,yellow,grey,white and black in mine and I dont have any problems with it. Why dont you ask your tattoo artist they should be able to answer that for you.

The Weather

A well-healed tattoo isn’t likely to be damaged by scratching, but it’s still best to try to avoid it. Topical anti-itch creams, ice or cool water can help to alleviate this discomfort temporarily until the weather becomes more skin-friendly again.

Body Chemistry
Changes inside your body can affect you on the outside, too. A rise in blood pressure, increased adrenaline, a change in body temperature – all of these things can affect your tattoo. If you notice your tattoo is itchy and uncomfortable, think about what you’ve been doing recently and you might find a connection. Usually stopping this activity for a period of time will cause the tattoo to feel better on its own.

Skin Conditions
You may discover that you have some kind of skin condition you didn’t even know you had, but your tattoo may be more sensitive to it. A skin condition can be as mild as dry skin or as severe as eczema, although the latter isn’t going to surface just because of a tattoo. If you believe you have some kind of skin condition, a visit to a dermatologist may help to relieve any body itching, including your tattoo.

Thanks sugar...ya,. it doesn't bother me..ie, itchy or anything...I just wondered why it did it...on and off like it did...

Mine get itchy as well. It used to drive me crazy, can't quit touching and looking.
