lol jill..i'll walk ya through it. i was curious because i have heard people say they are God's creatures and not to destroy them. just want to know how others feel and from different aspects zap....step away from the popcorn  try the hummingbird...it's yummy lol. not trying to put you on the spot (so if you don't want to answer that is cool) but does this come from some religious belief that is ok? I guess that's what i'm trying to get at here....the belief part |

My Atheist standpoint is that human beings have every right to use the animals and environment to suit us. We are the human race, we are the dominant race on the planet. So long as we don't believe in God, nobody can tell us what we can and cannot do. We use animals for food and trees for tools and shelter and we constantly gain more and more control over our lives as we get smarter.
It seems, to me, that most of the content of the Bible and other religious books seems to basically boil down to: "don't EVER do anything that could make your life easier or happier, and if you absolutely have to then make sure you feel really guilty about it afterwards!"

Thomas...please clarify. are you saying it's ok to eat them as long as it's not part of a sacrifice or wrong or right???? in the New Testament...Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. that's why there isn't animal sacrifices eating plants???? since I have no problem eating animals...no problem eating plants either I was just being stupid for a minute... On a more serious note, I don't believe in sacrifice and agree that Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. I believe in hunting, but killing no more than your going to eat. When people talk about hunting, they never mention that plants are living creatures put on earth by God as well. How is it morally right to eat one and not the other? God Put us on earth and provided us with a way to survive. As for the grass comment, a dumb outburst. I'll elaborate, we mow our grass and kill weeds (both living creatures), for a purpose none other than to make our yards look good to the human eye. |

all of the creatures of the planet serve many purposes, but mostly to provide us food. My non-religious argument for this is that animals consume other animals all the time. it is there way of life, eat or be eaten. why then is it wrong for us to do so? ty for that. I was worried I wouldn't get a response from a non-religious point. I don't think it's wrong. I'm trying to see if there is anyone that does and why from a belief (non-belief) point |

I believe that the inherent problem lies within the trophy hunters, much more so than the people who hunt for food purposes. I personally do not hunt, although I did several times as a youth. I have heard the argument used that it is inhumane to kill for sport only. That is why I am a fisherman!!! You see, rather than kill 'em, I merely hook 'em through the face, then proceed to drag 'em through the water for about 50 yards, all the while they are fighting for their life. After the fight is over, I hold 'em up outta the water while they gasp helplessly for air until they are exhausted... then I release 'em...  Much more humane than killin' for sport!

If we cut all the trees, the earth wouldn't have a way to cleanse it's polluted air. Only God could have created such a beautiful thing as a tree! But we are smart enough to plant new trees. What I mean to say is, eventually the human race will be so advanced we'll be completely self-reliant. We will have machines that can do anything from cleaning the air to producing food to destroying diseases. Eventually we will be God, since we'll be able to control everything. But we can never get to that point if we keep telling ourselves that Man is a sickly little worm just waiting to be crushed under God's heel, a pathetic whelp who should live a life of submission and constantly feel guilty about his own existence. Religion was a good thing to help primitive man carry on, but nowadays I think it is just holding us back as a species and as individuals. |
