...how a movie for children have a lot to say. I just saw Happy Feet, and it seems to say three basic things:

1) How do we set standards to measure people? Just because the penguin could not sing, and he was different from all the others he was cast out from his family and the society. How many times do we do the same with our peers just because they are different?

2) What the hell are we doing with the environment? We think that we are the only specie that needs the nature's resources for our survival. We seem not to see that there are other species on this Earth which are dying because our stupid way of consuming or destroying what Mother Earth gives us.

3) This one pissed me off. The way how they represented the hispanic penguins. Shorter than the others. Well that is the way some people see us anyway.

TLW.

Have you ever seen the older Disney movies? They are pretty stuffed up with some sexual imagery and racial slurs.

Shrek the third was the worst for kids to see in my opinion.

I bought my daughter Alvin and the Chipmunks yesterday, and we came home to watch it together, it seemed like a good movie for children.

The mom always dies.sad

I haven't seen the movie. You have surprised me with what you said about how they portrayed the Hispanic penquins. That's a shame.

I thought the Hispanic penguins were awesome and stole the whole movie.

I think the Emperor species is the tallest one, so any other penguin species would be shorter regardless.

Anyway, i loved the moviedrinker

Sorry have not seen the movie, so not sure what exactly you refer to...but do trust your judgement, you do always have good solid views.

About the only one I can possibly comment on, would be the last and only from a guess viewpoint in a comical sense.

MAYBE (not saying at all for sure) they were just using a "typical characteristic" that is prominent in that culture. Many comedians do it in a humorous way. But the best way to make sure it goes over is by making sure no ethnic group is left out. Me, being a cracker, I make sure that I am actually more on the "white jokes" than any other, because I try not to seem I am going after any one particular group.

We ALL have traits we can laugh at. Most jokes I will do are done using myself as the target. But then, can;t resist an open shot to hopefully make someone laugh with an "off the wall" opportunity (just like in that other thread we just had).

Even then, it can still come off wrong. So that is just a theory. You would know better the intent since you have seen the movie. but just guessing, since its actually ethnic correct, that Latinos do average a shorter height (about 5'8" isn't it?) they MAY have just been doing a play on that.

Again, just a GUESS on my part. flowerforyou

LOL..ok, but that's not average from your region. flowerforyou

Again, its just characteristics, like when a black comedian, like Richard Pryor does "white people"..so "proper" and act so nieve in so many ways and an upper class prosona. it's HYSTARICAL! because most of us can relate to those in every culture.

Like Cheech Marron. he is hilarious in the Cheech and Chong movies, he plays that part incredibly well. then to watch him on Jeopardy, the man is a freakin GENIOUS! But he "plays" the cultural roles and sterotypes for being Hispanic. drinker flowerforyou

Ok i did some research on the rock hopper penguins, the species of the Hispanic characters, and found out that a lot of them and similar species live on the coast of Argentina, Chile, and Peru, as well as the islands surrounding said nations.

So that maybe why they were given that accent for the movie drinker

LOL, that's because Shrek is really for adults. Not kids.

I remember when Fern Gully came out and I went to watch it in the theater. I was very annoyed with it. It was so blatant and obviously preachy that it pretty much ruined any portion of the movie that was actually good.
