How many of you think they should bring back "the slap/spank" rule where the teacher can spank an unruly child in the classroom???

sorry but I and only I (aside from family) discipline my child

I have to agree here. I made it clear to the school as well. If someone hits my child, they may need to worry more about mom. Affraid I may come unglued. There are more positive ways for punishments. I dont judge other parents if spanking is their form of punishment, but I dont spank my kids and nobody else will either.

If any teacher ever touched my child he/she would be greatly missed by their family.

NOT ANYONE BUT THE PARENTS! That is something I would not handle well. I do believe I'd fip out. Any disobeying of rules should be left to the parents, disgression, on how to best handle. I am not for physical punishment after the age of 8 or 9 and for some that is too late. I used it very, very, rarely. I'm never for hitting in the face, under any circumstances.

In 6th grade, we had teachers who could hit hands with a ruler, back in the 70's. But, one teacher got off way too much on being the "Master of the Universe" and did mean things like run your knee socks down to your feet and other such crap. No, no hitting by teachers, EXCEPT IN SELF DEFENSE. I hate some of the garbage kids do to adults these days, but those same kids would also cry "abuse" or whatever, or put a contract out on the teacher. All around, bad idea. noway

I think they should as long as they have permission from the parents. I know that it helped keep me in line in school. I also knew that if I got whacked in school I had it coming again once I got home!

ABSOLUTLY NOT.

You paddle my child... you'll be missing some teeth.

I don't do it. Once they are out of diapers..... there is no need for it.

I was *swated* with a wooden paddle in the 8th grade because in science class I told someone to stop picking on Harold Richards, (the glass nerd) because I talked in class. That was so out of line on the teachers part.

When i was a kid, lol, and that might have been just a few years ago......ok decades...but lets move on...Standing in the lunchroom line, myself and another kid pretending to be shooting at each other. We were taken to the principles office. the paddle was home made with holes drilled in it. It left whelps on my behind. I don't remember what my dad did, but i know they were never allowed to paddle me again. I agree with "spare the rod spoil the child" i disagree with that type of punishment. I'm thankful for every spanking i ever got from my mom and dad, but there is a huge difference in administering a simple spanking, and using a tool that is clearly designed for abuse. I do not agree with school personnel spanking a child.

He'd have to learn how to spell, capitalize, and use puctuation properly.

personally i don't have children of my own but i have nieces and nephews and i nor their parents spank them so i don't think that anybody else has the right to spank them.
plus we're living in a new era the teacher would probably get spanked back laugh flowerforyou

People need to spank that ass at home more. Teach their children to respect their elders. Teach them what real life is going to be like. Do some of those things, and maybe you will get them out of the house before they are thirty.

agreed that discipline begins at home..but if this be true, then outside agencies also need to keep their big noses out of the affairs of the home, and let the parent(s) do their job as parents, jmo

Remember your kids might not act as discipline outside the way they do at home, So if they act like jerks outside the house, and you dont want anyone else slapping them around, then outside agencies will have to question your parenting.
