Those children had no freedom, they were enslaved and brainwashed.

Religion can not overstep law.

If we were to say it's alright because it's religion, we would have to say the same for human sacarifice, rape, torture, etc.

i don't see how that could be construed as freedom of anything

I don't consider it right as the children weren't given a choice in the matter, they were raised to believe that is their destiny, know no other way of life. Some of them get married at 13 and 14, I don't think it is fair to the girls. They have no chance to see what else is out there.

Most of these kids know that they don't want to get married to someone who is 30 or 40 years older than them, let alone those that have been married off to their cousins. But they also understand that in their religion they will be shaming their families, and basically condemned. Its amazing to me that our country has let this continue. I should probably stop now....I can get pretty fired up over all of that.

So long as freedom of religion doesn't violate any laws, do what you want. Once it starts violating laws, it shouldn't be allowed to use religion as a cover.

we must be somewhat cautious when we try to judge another culture, which is what this is. I completely disagree with their practices, but, I respect their right to engage in them. Multiple wives and child brides are the norm in many societies in the world; ie Hindu, Muslim. There are native american religons which utilize various hallucingenic drugs in their ceremonies, which are illegal, and they have an exemption to do it. to me, the questionable thing about this situation is.....the girl who allegedly called the cops cannot be found in the group. And the guy who was her alleged husband has been in jail in Az and supposedly does not even know her..was it a trumped up deal by the authorities?
