The Bible says, "God has ... planted eternity in the human heart," (Ecclesiasted 3:11). You have an inborn instinct that longs for immortality. This is because God designed you, in his image, to live for eternity. Even though we know everyone eventually dies, death always seems unnatural and unfair. (Life is unfair, too, come to think of it).

The reason we feel we should live forever is God wired our brains with that desire!

I guess God cause the great flood to test that theory

I don't believe that's true because I don't necessarily have a desire to live forever.

I think a desire to live forever really stems more from your immediate situation than anything else. If you have lots of family and friends and you to see what’s going to happen next with them naturally you’re going to have a desire to stick around. But I think if you end up living an empty lonely life you’d soon lose your desire to live forever.

I don’t believe that it’s ‘wired into our brains’. I think it has much more to do with our current situations and desires. In all honestly I’m looking forward to leaving this life. I seriously wish that euthanasia was legal and respectable. Not that I would necessarily jump on it at this moment, but I would certainly choose that over a long painful death due to deterioration of health.

Whether there is an after life of not is not important to me. If it’s not going to be any better than this life I’m not sure I’m even interested at all. In fact, I’m not if that’s the case.

One thing about people placing so much value on “life” is that they tend to lose sight of what “life” even means. They seem to think that just keeping a heart beating means to keep something “alive”.

But to me, “life” it about the quality of life, not just pumping blood through veins. Keeping sick people alive to prolong their agony is not showing respect for “life”. Forcing a young girl who has been raped to bring that pregnancy to term to save the baby is not respecting the “life” of the girl who was raped.

Life is so much more than gasping for breath and pumping blood through veins.

I agree with Patrick Henry too, “Give me liberty, or give me death”.

I would not choose a life of slavery over death. I would rather die than suffer an unpleasant life.

I don’t believe that everyone does have the desire to live forever. I know it’s not an obsession for me.

Like I say, I’d consider it under some conditions, under other conditions I’d rather just cease to exist.

my truck can pull a stump out of the ground, but if I can't get the tires to find some traction, then the truck is just going to watch the stump remain where it is while the truck goes through the motions of looking useful and busy

lots of smoke and lots of noise but the stump is not moving.

sometimes dynamite is better than the laziness that invented it.

When people are young they seldom think of their mortality. They just live.

Death is a way out for a lot of people. Out of the "fine mess" they have gotten themselves into. (Three stooges quote: "This is a fine mess you've gotten us into!")

If you were told that you were going to live for 125 -150 years, no matter what physical shape you were in (~old age they call it) then you might take the time to take better care of your health rather than be lazy and fail to eat right or exercise.

You might just attribute your sad condition to "old age" and look for a magic pill to make you feel better. I see many people who do this, then they sit around waiting for death.

People want the magic pill.

That is why there is so many drugs prescribed.

I hope my beliefs are correct, but it is a good thing to consider that this may be the only life you have, and take care of it as if it were, and take care of your body as if you were going to have to occupy it least 150 years.

Get off the couch and do some range of motion, pamper yourself with good food, exercise, etc.

I would like to live a very long time, but as Abra said, not unless I had quality of life.

JB

I'm gonna live forever, gang, if I have anything to say about it. And I have someone to help me with the project. I get closer every day, and I'm gonna take a whole lot of people with me, too, if it's at all possible. It could happen!

As a matter of fact I did read it. Every story contains blood and guts solutions to ever day problems.

Doesn't seem like a very good instruction manual to me.

Look what it did to men like Jim Jones and David Koresh.

It's a dangerous book. ohwell

Eternity was created by man because he feared death. Not because of a prewiring

Abra

I do not agree with David Koresh. Was it ever proven he was doing anything that the Govt. said? I have a minister friend who is a retired sheriff from being shot. He was traveling around at the time all this was going on. He decided to go down and shoot the bull with the sheriff of that county and see what David was like. He told him that David he had no problems with he has spoken with him many times. When the ATF raided the compound he knew nothing of it. He told my friend if they would of come to him and he had no doubt all he would of had to do and ask David to come in he needed to talk with him. If they would of we never even would of heard of Waco. No this was showing to let religions know they better not get out of hand. Speaking about the Govt. So Abra the Bible had nothing at all to do with why Waco happened..Shalom...Milesdrinker
