I knew about the Blacked Peas but not the hamburger! Awsome!!..
That is why us Texans eat Blacked Peas on New Years for GOOD LUCK!!! Did ya know that the HAMBURGER was invented in Athens, Texas? Awwwwwwwwwwwww it is true ............... as well as the capital for Black-eyed peas.......... The hamburger had its beginning on Athens' interesting courthouse square in the l880s when Fletcher Davis, who owned a downtown cafe, invented the sandwich. The delicacy was so popular that in l904 a group of Athens businessmen raised enough money to send the inventor to the St. Louis World's Fair, where the hamburger was introduced to the world. For many years, the growing, processing, canning and eating of black-eyed peas was a major part of life in Athens--so much so that Athens became the black-eyed pea capitol of the world, eventually spawning an annual jamboree each July. http://www.texasescapes.com/TRIPS/East_Texas_Sunday_Drives/Athens_Texas_travel.htm |

If you do holler at me and we can meet up somewhere and Kristi can drive down too! I'm sure she will go for it.
Your sister lives around this area? We are just a little town but growing. Did ya'll know? At Acton, Tx Cemetary, Elizabeth Patton Crockett, second wife of Davy Crockett is burried. It's the smallest state park in Tx. 12 ft. x 21 ft. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acton_State_Historic_Site Here is a link you can read about it and see the monument. This is really close to me. |
