So CNN doesn't know what they are talking about but instead of you berating the source you berate a new site who is reporting on the source who is fact checking Walz' military record.

Secondly, the issue is not whether Walz was a CSM during his 2 years but rather did he RETIRED as Command Sergeant Major as he claims which the Nationak Guard said it is not. If he says otherwise it is misleading.

There are several ways to splice the story, but when Walz submitted his retirement request, he was still a CSM. Rank insignia right there on his uniform. Go ahead and check the timeline if you wish.

So Walz is playing on a technicality. Demoted to Master Sergeant a few months after retiring but still bragging he retired as a Command Sergeant Major. Yet that isn't the official position of the Minnesota NG. Interesting.

"Earlier this week Harris’ campaign circulated on X a 2018 clip of Walz speaking out against gun violence, and saying, “We can make sure that those weapons of war, that I carried in war, is the only place where those weapons are at.” That comment suggests that Walz portrayed himself as someone who spent time in a combat zone."

That comment suggests that Walz portrayed himself as someone who spent time in a combat zone.

Do you suffer headaches from the mental gymnastics that you have to do every day to bend reality, to bend the truth to suit your slanted perspective on life?

Newsmax's news article is based on the Minnesota National Guard claim according to their records that Walz did not retired as a Command Sergeant Major as he is claiming but as a Sergeant Major. Newsmax did not hyper up anything.

I don't know about the States but generally speaking when a police officer or solider impersonate a rank they can be charged.

Secondly, CNN is disputing that when Walz make the claim that that he was in fighting position with weapons he is suggesting he was in combat but that the army records doesn't bear that out. Again no hype up on the Newsmax's part just reporting on CNN fact checking Walz.

1. I'm not performing mental gymnastics. I'm just clarifying what seems to confuse you. I know the National Guard because I was in the California National Guard for decades, myself. A Guard soldier can retire at will after completing at least 20 years of service. However, when you retire, you don't get to retire at your highest rank unless you've held it for at least two years. That MN Gard officer is saying that Walz didn't retire as a CSM/E-9, but rather a MS/E-8. Walz was a CSM. At the moment his retirement took effect, he was a Master Sergeant. Both are true.

2. Saying he "carried weapons in war" isn't the same as serving in combat. Wars come and go, and one's place in them isn't always in combat. During the first Gulf War, I was in Texas, and we had our weapons, even though I didn't leave that state. Soldiers in my neighboring unit deployed to Iraq. They never saw combat, either. We all carried our issued weapons during that time. However, Walz's statement that those M-16 rifles have no business in civilian use, is just as true.
