In some cultures yes. In America, not so much anymore.

In fact, the sexual revolution has blown up to the point where sex is just some extra-curricular activity, like going to a ballgame or having dinner out, at least for many people these days. There are those who choose for whatever reason to abstain from sex, perhaps they have devout religious beliefs that inspire them to retain their virginity until after marriage.
