I have a myspace as well but I do not go to it often at all as I spend
my time working on full access web servers day and night.

have you also seen the webmonkey tutorials as well. They are pretty
cheezy but might get an idea or two accross a bit clearer as well. They
are part of the lycos system if you google them. Also there is a
magazine with online publication that is free php architect to subsribe
to the print format is pretty expensive so I would suggest reading it
onlin for a few months and see if it is worth it to you.

http://www.phparch.com/

It might be a bit overwhelming at first and it is slow loading here but
usually has alot of info in it.

Not sure it is a matter of luck at all. Either she likes you or she
doesn't. Keep in mind it seems like your friends and if she does not
want to date you should definately keep the friendship part.

If she does want to date and it soes not work out do what you need to to
keep the friendship as well.

I will wish you luck even though I think you will get a positive
response to your question.

Personally I believe in pre-destination

I used to live on this site. SO I knkow the addiction factor of it. It
was only until I realized that my priorities were entirely out of whack
that I took that addiction and replaced it. That my posting which
stopped for a while is now comming back a bit.

In the past couple months I have been living deep within the web design
and development world. I have rebuilt my website twice and added alot of
new features to it as well.

If I have any hopes of making it as a web designer I need to have a
great site to advertize my abuilities and I believe I have that now but
a great site means constant updating and improving as well.

Here is something I just learned about on wikipedia you might want to
take a gander at.

Hi Verb,
I am actually pretty familiar with the 301 redirects already. I am
looking at making a couple pretty drastic changes after the next PR
release which is supposed to happen on or about April 15.

At that time I will probably be changing web hosting services as well as
relisting my site entirely on the search engines with a
http://www.subdomain.mydomain.com solution to my problem here. The thing
is it will not only mean implementing 301 redirects but will also mean
relisting with the search engines entirely. During that waiting period
to be listed on the search engines I cannot have both sites funtional as
that would create duplicate content and could get me banned from the
search engines entirely.

The end result of going with the sub-domain will add alot of weight to
my keywords for my website that I could not otherwise aquire.

I am to the point where the lack of traffic during the changeover period
should not hurt too much more then it already is hurting me. I am hoping
that the local businesses here will recognize my capabuilities within
the next month or so when out of nowhere my site starts getting as high
or higher a PR rating as theirs.

I am also planning on doing an email to each of the local businesses in
the chamber of commerce introducing myself and offering my services to
them. If that does not generate business I will extend that email to
include the members that do not have a site at all listed in the chamber
database.

If at that point it is still not working I live in an area that has
other chambers of commerce available to me locally as well. Being a part
of the tri state area there is a tristate chamber of commerce as well as
chambers of commerce in neighboring counties which comprizes 3 different
states. I live within 10 miles of both NY and NJ which adds 2 more
counties of chambers to my available list.

I have found that you do not even have to be a member to access their
entire list of members contact information typically including their
websites and email addresses.

You cannot delete your profile you can only deactivate. The information
is stored on these servers for as lonag as the site Administration
chooses to keep it there.

Kind of like the Hotel California you can check out anytime you like but
you can never leave. Welcome to the hotel california.

How much do you realy know about wikipedia though? Did you know that
it's servers are housed under Stamford University main campus. Did you
know the servers themselves are provided by Bill Gates. Did you know
that Bill Gates actually owns most of the University? Ever wonder how a
guy who drops out of high school would get a PHD from Stamford? Money
talks in America. Ever wonder where Bill Gates got the idea for Windows
in the first place. He stole it and patented it. It was contrived by him
highering programmers to build a program to compete with Apple years
ago. Their interpetation of the Apple system is windows.

Programmers write the world end users live in.

No problem I will work it out just will take me a bit of time. I have
gotten pretty deep into SEO at this point but it seems so easy. Mostly
common sense.

I have actually done a great deal of SEO work on the home page of my
site Now I jsut have to do the same sort of things on the other 10 pages
or so and have it all done within the next few days before the search
engines come by as well as the april 15 release of the new page rank
bar.

The key is posting it prior to the search engines crawling it.

Hey Verb,

I would stay away from PHP 5 for now deal with PHP 4 version 5 was
released before its time and most web servers will not even install it
as it is not very stable.

The Learning PHP 5 book published by oreilly is a total waist of money
and time.

PHP is a great language if you get good at it you will probably never
look back. You should be sure to know your HTML and CSS very well prior
to learning PHP. You should also consider learning JavaScript if you
don't already know it as well.

Another thing most people are unaware of if you put a .htaccess file on
your web server with a handler you can make your .htm and your .html
files parse on the php processor on the server and then output HTML to
the browser. Basically you can add the power of your PHP programming to
your htm and html pages without a need to change the extension to .php
that is a wonderful thing.

People do not need to know what technology you use to create your pages
as long as they look good and promote the product or information your
trying to promote with the web page in the first place.

Dynamically generating pages from a database is an awesome poer though.
Think about it in about two hours last week I put up an Amazon store
with 3 million dynamically generated pages for the search engines to
crawl.

Today I actually had a visitor from a google search on my site looking
at a product on my online store.

It must be working.

I thought this area was reserved for techies till I saw Spay in here.

I am guessing this topic is only understandable by the upper end of the
techie culture.

I wonder what spay thought about the javascript I posted on a different
thread here. I guess it looked like a foreign language to him at best.

Hi Spay.

Ok everyone lets talk about some web stuff here. I have been trying to
increase my website's traffic and popularity.

Those of you are familiar with it may know it as SEO which is short for
Search Engine Optimisation. I have found through a bit of research that
you can in fact have a PageRank of 0 and be listed the number 1 result
on a search. Therefore, you might think that pagerank does not matter
much. While this is true if your are competeing for search phrases like
"interior decoration of ping pong balls", If you are trying to get to
the top of a search for a more common search like "Web Design" you need
a high rating to maintain the first page position. The current leader of
the web design search results box has a 7 page rank. That page is
actually owned by About dot com.

In all I have read the only thing that seems to increase the pagerank on
a page is how many other sites link to your site and what level of
quality and relitivity they have to your site.

Every website on the internet has a monetary value to what a link is
worth. If you get one related website that has a PageRank of 9 to link
to your site your pagerank will increase to a 7. to get the same results
with a page rank of 1 linking to you it would take thousands of links
from different domain name to your site to get there. That being said
most webmasters who make the decision to link to you or not do it based
on the value your site has to theirs or their visitors.

Here is a bit of wisdom:

If anyone asks you to link to their site from yours the first question
that should come to mind is what is in it for me or my visitors.

The second question should be If I do are you going to cleanly link back
to mine?

________________________________________________________________

Ok so now for the big questions.

Anyone out there have ideas on how to effectively aquire backlinks to a
website with decent ratings?

Anyone out there know of a free way to speed up being listed in the
DMOZ? I was previously listed with them but since their server crash
they seem to have forgotten about me. I am still on Google, Yahoo and
MSN as well as several other small ones.

I am not looking for black hat tips to get better ratings. Ia m looking
for more advice on how you might go about getting better ratings overall
as well as a higher pagerank.

I cannot provide links to my site or blog here as that would be a
violation of the rules. I can however tell you the name of the business
I am starting up without linking ot it.

My business name is "Lake Area Webs". If you put that into a google
search as one word I should be on top of the list of results. My website
home page has links to both the blog and the amazon store.

I am still working on the results of the font switcher but if you are
not visually impared it should not be needed anyhow.

I am also actively working on the SEO of the site as well. April 15th is
not only important because of income tax but it also happens to be the
day they have slated to release the new updated Google PageRanks. My
site is estimated to be a 4 when the new ranks come out. I am trying to
improve that. I really want to be like a 6-8 but I do not think they
will let me jump that much in one shot.

Video games are for big kids as well as younger ones. I was heavy into
gaming a while but these days I live in source code and have little time
to be competitive at a game.

I am planning on getting a few gaming systems in here for my daughter
which she will only be able to play when she visits me as they will
remain here and not go home with her.

The last system I got her for christmas the year before last was the
gamecube and her mother will not allow her to bring it to my place for
her visits even though I paid for it.

This time I am going to hook her up with a killer setup and it will
remain here.

I would just make an entire image with ghost or something like that and
store the image on DVD.

That will backup all your data as well as yoru programs and if disaster
strikes you can be up and running in an hour or less.

One of the best ways to avoid virus I have found is to stay off the
hacker and porn sites. Also keep in mind if you don't know the person
dont open an email with attachments or go to links in the email.

kaspersky is very little known but it is a name that puts fear into the
minds of those at nortons as kaspersky has a virus library that is far
more detailed then nortons. They literally check for hundreds of
thousands of viruses nortons does not.

I learned that about two years ago I could not remember the name of it
though until I saw it again here. I was talking to an ex engineer of
symantec when I first heard of it.

I believe you are starting to see the effects of Web 2.0 it will be more
and more obvious in the future as it grows.

Google has been working on an interface that will literally replace the
need for microsoft office as well as email services outside of google.

Open office is an open source software that does replace office and has
been around for years the corperate world tends to shy away form open
source.

However, things are changing with Java being released as open source
now.

Also, PHP has always been open source as well. Open source on the web
server marketplace in business has taken a firm stance way out ahead of
the people running Microsoft.

Currently over 70% of the web servers world wide are running Linux,
Apache, MySQL and PHP all of which are open source.

I figured I would help to stir the fire here a bit and maybe get this
posting to kick it up a notch.
