Love can make one reach immmortality, amor in latin closer to that meaning. However, love can be seen as agape, eros or philia. In Hellenic philosophy one of the best treatises on the subject is the Symposium by Plato on the various forms of Love and its purposes. Very interesting, I will have to read it again. Metaphysical or simply biological, I would choose the first definition. But of course, this age of levelling does not offer many of these aspects.

Perhaps, in philosophical terms, man must be overcome to create something beyond. In the current flux of time I'd say man has a very repetitive and predictable nature based on matter and money. Especially the latter one.
