You never know the winner at the starting gate,
All you can do is check the conditions, and hope for the best.
No tip, no insight, no amount of horse sense,
Can tell you the outcome.

All you can do,
Is run,
For the fences.

Loved your poem -- very honest of you to put out there the -- about how difficult it is to make your way in the world. The above is my small gift to you, hope you get something out of it, 'cause it was just what came off the top of my head. Best of luck with everything,

Very nice ... very, very nice.

Poetry should always be simple, and yet descriptive, so that all can understand it -- or at least take from it something they can understand. You've very eloquently put something so common into a brief synopsis that is easy to understand. I applaud you for that!

Take care.
