Ole Jack Layton> ~ Thoughts From A Soldier~
written by Josh Forbes,
Calgary Alberta Canada

Dear Jack Layton,

You sit there in your quiet home, no fear is in your heart,
You sleep soundly certain that it won't be blown apart.
Your children they can go to school and play out in the park,
They've never seen a bomb explode, heard air raids in the dark.
They've never seen dead bodies piled up on the street,
Your wife, she won't be beaten, treated like a piece of meat.
You are free to form opinions, read any news print you can see,
You enjoy your rights and privileges in this country wide and free.
The reason you can live like that is because I fight your wars,
I fight and push the enemy back, I keep them off our shores.
I am here and you are there pretending you know best.
Well Ole Jack now listen close while I get this off my chest.
You have the right to criticize, you have the right to complain
You don't have the right to drag me down in a stupid political game.
The thing about your rights Ole Jack, the part you can't comprehend
Is you work in the very system, the democracy I defend.
I stand on fences around the world protecting those that need it,
It is not for you to determine Jack whether or not it's worth it.
Ask the people in Afghanistan if they want me to stay,
Women and children depend on me - you say just walk away.
I don't need your changing policy, trying hard to not lose face,
What I need is you behind me, helping protect this place.
You know its hard to do this when I think I'm all alone.
I hear stories of young punks pissing on memorial stones.
I read the papers over here and they tell me what is said.
Canadians are losing faith I can't get it through my head.
You say that it is hopeless, it really brings me down
Don't tell my mother we're losing, don't spread that rumour around.
I'm doing good, were winning here but no-one will believe
Because we are way over here where no one there can see.
Women here can work you see, children starting school.
We built a working government, we've broken Taliban rule.
We are so close to winning this, it's not too far away
History will show that we were in the right to stay.
When that brilliant day arrives, victory you'll claim is ours
You'll forget you said to run away - forget you are a coward.
On that day just thank me for my courage and my trouble,
Find another place that needs help, and send me on the double.

Good morning all. First I want to apologize for the earlier post with all the codes in it. That was not sent from me. A long story but no need to tell that one now. I returned home last evening and I want you to know Matthew is doing so much better. He will be transferred home later in the week. I have no words that can convey my feelings towards those of you who have kept Matthew and I in your thoughts and prayers. Such caring and kindness. It will not be forgotten. My son sends his heartfelt thanks and wanted me to say for him that he is proud to serve people such as yourselves. Vanessa, you sweet lady, thank you my friend. I will see you all in forums and hope to get to know as friends. God bless all....

My dear friend Lady Nessa,

I apologize for not keeping in contact the last couple of days but things here have needed my attention. My son has been upgraded to critical. I am now making arrangements to fly to him. I will not be on for awhile but I want you and the many kind, caring people on this site to know how very much your thoughts and prayers mean to me. I will take them with me. Go with peace and God bless all......

Army Man... First I have to say Thank you for your service and committment to our great country. You have my respect. My son was on his third deployment... the first 2 in Iraq... this last in Afghanistan. He was severely wounded 3 days ago in the mountains of Afghanistan. Trauma to his chest and both legs recieved while laying ground fire for his fellow squad members. Like you, he was cheated on by his wife during his first deployment. Like you,he felt the betrayal.I have no words of wisdom for you just like I didnt for him... but he had and still has my love and support. I hope you have that also from a loving mother. May god go with you as I will .... Thank you for your service and dedication to our country.

My update... My son, Matthew Shane,29 years young, was severely wounded in the mountains of Afghanistan. Shot in the right upper chest and trauma to both legs. This was his third deployment. He is in stable condition on foreign soil and will be transferred home when he is able to travel. I have been informed that he recieved his wounds while laying ground cover for his fellow squad members. He has a long road to recovery ahead of him but he is a strong young man, born with character. I have not yet been able to personally talk with him but his commanding officer has kept me informed. I wish to thank all of you for your kind thoughts and prayers and especially to my friend... Lady Nessa. A woman of great compassion and caring...
I am overwhelmed by all....Thank you

Dear God, I want to say,
A special prayer in a special way.
May you bless those far and near
Brighten a smile and dry a tear.

Who could forget that terrible day
America was attacked in a horrific way?
God, please show them that you're near.
Touch a soul to show you care.

Guide them every day and night
Let them know they'll be all right.
Help them to heal day by day
And show them they're loved in every way.

Bless people far and near
Who helped out others and showed they cared.
Bless those who passed away
For their love will never stray.

God, I know you'll hear my prayer
And you'll bless everyone everywhere.
Please take our pain away.
God, please bless the U.S.A

While I'm laying down to rest,
Courage calls young men to test.
To test their faith on battle ground.
O bloody sight! And dreadful sound!

Trudging through the blood and mud,
What hath power to stir men's blood?
Blood to rage, and power to fight;
Faith to keep them through the night?

What has sparked the flame inside,
Braving war with reverent pride;
Bearing the burden for another,
A life he believes to be his brother?

Lying in rest at home, like me;
What was it that his eye did see;
That he would thrust him from the bed,
And consider himself already dead?

Damn the threat! Forbear the woe!
Courage has budded, to war I go!
I shall not shrink, nor fear the reaper!
For I know I am my brother's keeper
