I am the same way...an I work in the medical field. I was pushed out of my comfort zone many times. When I'm at work I come out of my shell but outside of work I still feel nervous in large groups and really hate talking to new people.

I love my job an wish I could spend more time in the hosp. I have been talking to my manger bout getting a PRN job at another office, she has been trying to get me in there for more hours. I have nothing else to do so why not do what I love and bring more money in at the same time?
