There's just about as many opinions on sex as there are people, Nikki. Opinions vary on the subject, and to be perfectly honest, your values influence your opinion.

The tenets of some religions dictate that the purpose of sex is to make babies. If such is your case, then the idea that sex could be pleasurable is secondary to the duties of procreation.

In western cultures, where religion is not the overriding reason for sexual intercourse, sex is more for the sake of pleasure, rather than solely for the purpose of reproduction.

So you see, your personal values play a part in whether you think sex is a means for you and your partner to make each other happy, or to stick to the business of reproduction.

Personally, I prefer to separate the sexual act (ie.: sex) from the act of making love (which makes the sexual act an expression of the love you share with your partner). Sex by itself would be for the sake of pure gratification. Lovemaking would be a communion of two souls becoming one, an expression of love rather than lust...

The important thing is that whether it's sex or making love, it has to be consensual between you and your partner. You have to both agree that it is what you both want.

I know it may sound a bit cheesy, but that's my take for what it's worth.
