Pain seared his neck as Johnny grabbed his pistol. Trying to draw a bead on Turik as he wrestled with Jaq in the dark. Perhaps Jaq needed a shot in the @ss.

Jaq was determined to beat Turik to save Johnny, she really was falling for him. But she didn't have half the strength of Turik. She saw Johnny aiming, it was all she could do, to put Turik between her and Johnny's gun.

Johnny squeezed quickly 5 times, unloading them all into the back of Turik's head. Jaq quickly beheaded Turik to finish the job.

Johnny still bleeding, fell back to the ground...

Till We Have Faces: A Myth Retold

Dorn upon hearing a shot, gunned the Crown Vic. He felt Diane so close now , he hoped that shot wasn't for her. Looking ahead he spied the green Dodge parked in front of an old run down house.

Skidding to a halt beside the Dodge. Dorn jumped out of the car, drew his gun and head towards the house. Sarah followed.

Dorn noticed the sheriff lying in a pool of blood as he heard a motorboat start nearby.

Sarah was already running towards the back of the house. Dorn quickly overtook her and ran down an overgrown trail leading to a small dock. In the distance a boat was disappearing around a small island. He couldn't see for sure but felt Diane was on that boat.

He felt hope begin to ebb seeing no other boat in sight.

"So close, but not close enough, dammit!" he thought
