That women shouldn't dress like sluts. Now don't get me wrong, I know that shouldn't encourage assault but I'm just saying the reasons people like to say why should apply to the circumstance of women walking alone at night. This dumb ***** named Krista Ford (the niece of our mayor Rob Ford) tweeted her thoughts on the subject and told women not to dress like whores. Her tweet said "Stay alert, walk tall, carry mace, take self-defence classes & don't dress like a whore. #DontBeAVictim #StreetSmart Obviously, there was an uproar. One of the victims of the sexual assaults typed this open letter in response to the tweet:
Dear a lot of people, but specifically Ms. Krista Ford, In advance I’d like to say I am sorry. This is not the ideal situation to first acquaint oneself with someone and I am mortified. Sorry! However, under the circumstance, I feel like you owe me a moment of your time, even though we’ve never meet. The circumstance being you called me a whore. I should clarify: I’m one of the victims of the recent string of sexual assaults in the Annex. ‘Sup? It’s nice to make you acquaintance. So, you’ve called me a whore. Here we are. This is awkward now, isn’t it? You’re probably wondering if I’m going to challenge you on having been a member of Lingerie League. I’m not, because I’d never slut-shame another woman. I believe you have a right to your body and regardless of how you do or don’t dress it I believe you have a right to respect and personal security. I guess that’s the key difference in our thinking. You could wear a t-shirt that says “I’m literally asking for it” and I’d still advocate for your security. That’s what I’m asking for this brief moment of your day, for your edification. You’re a woman and you should know that your body is yours and yours alone. No matter how you dress it, you have a right — an actual Charter of Rights and Freedom right — to not be sexually assaulted. You are entitled to life, liberty and the security of person. Welcome to Canada — you live here! If you weren’t aware of your Charter rights, other Canadian things you may have missed out on are double-doubles, good maple syrup, and Beachcombers*, so check that s— out. For the record, I was sexually assaulted while wearing a knee-length polka-dot dress. The last time I wore that dress, it was to Easter dinner at my Gran’s, where I’m fairly certain I could make little to no money whoring. With due respect / sorry, Name withheld by Torstar News Service Canadian / Comedian / Beachcombers Enthusiast *I love Beachcombers. |

What are you feeling right now? Nothing in particular.
Are you afraid to express your feelings? No. Have your feelings ever got you into trouble? Yes. Have your feelings ever led you astray? I don't think so. Are your feelings rooted in reality? YES. Do you rely on your feelings or the feelings of others? Mine, of course! But if there is a personal matter between me and someone else that I care for, of course I will take their feelings into consideration. Are your feelings based on your personal beliefs? I suppose so! |

I need to be "uptight" about these things because people refuse to see the error of their ways. I have many opinions that people don't agree with.

I want people with strong values and morals to chat here! That means people who would only have sex if they're in a relationship with someone they love. This is for people who are against that "open relationships" crap, one night stands and friends with benefits! This is for people who would never cheat on their partners or do anything sexual or cross emotional boundaries with someone who is in a relationship!!!

And that's exactly what I'm talking about. It is good to be street smart, but frankly if I feel unsafe in a particular area and I have the option to ask someone to walk with me to a certain point, I will. But that should be MY choice. Nobody should be telling me to do that.

My point is that many people hold the view that "even if you wear a t-shirt that said "I'm asking for it" you still have the right not to be sexually assaulted." That's something one woman said on the news. If statistics showed that most victims of sexual assault were dressed slutty, people would still say that they have a right not to be touched. Why can't they apply that view to the issue as a whole? Why can't we go about their daily business? Why are we being scolded? Trying to take away our independence and FREEDOM is disgusting. It's other women who are saying we shouldn't be walking alone at night!!! And yes a woman could walk with another woman, but what happens when they need to part ways? There have been a string of recent attacks in a certain neighbourhood in my city which prompted me to make this thread. And guess what? They haven't caught the perpetrator! How pathetic.

Why is it socially acceptable to tell women not to walk alone at night, but not to dress "appropriately"? The former is more offensive. "Women are not raped because of how they are dressed!" WELL THEN, WOMEN ARE ALSO NOT RAPED BECAUSE THEY ARE WALKING ALONE AT NIGHT! This is degrading. You are saying women are incapable of defending themselves? You are suggesting that they need a MAN by their side??? What's next, should men start accompanying women to dinner and paying for them like in the olden days??? UGH!!!

The other day I had a dream that my friend was pregnant. I saw her later that evening and told her. Then, she told me she had a dream she had a kid!!! We were SO SHOCKED! What does this mean?! Could it just be a coincidence? By the way, there is no chance she or I will be pregnant in the near future.
