Sorry to read that, never nice having such visitors, never mind home or not, home or car, it is a bad thing to happen but of all things, you are fine and that is some consolidation. However, look into a volume based alarm system, you can be inside and move around, can have pets too but if the door opens or the window is broken, then it goes off (the "volume" of the habitation changes). May make you feel more at ease.
