I am SO DA*M tired of people saying "no reply is a reply".. That's bulls**t. If someone came up to you at an event or party and tried to start a conversation...would you just walk away without replying? Just sit there and ignore them? No? Then what makes people think it is OK to do that online? (dating sites) It costs me nothing but a fw seconds of my time to write them (if i am not intetrested) and politely say that. I feel that is the courteous and decent thing to do.. But then..I am older, and was raised with manners... I agree that "no reply is a reply" is bovine excrement. Often communication channels are unreliable. If a beggar approached me on the street, most likely I would ignore him/her. That is particularly true if I am with someone else. To the point of why anyone would think "ghosting" online is appropriate, consider attempting to use this site when one was seeking someone 20-30 years one's junior. The provided filters are completely inadequate to the task, and the ones between the ears must be employed. Information comes fast on the Internet and it may well be for some the best strategy is to 'ignore the noise.' |
