Mayor de Blasio is sending the Obama administration a $35 million bill for the cost of securing Trump Tower from the time President-elect Donald Trump won the race through Jan. 20 — an average of over $400,000 a day, officials said on Monday.

De Blasio, in a press conference with Police Commissioner James O'Neill, said that he is sending a letter to President Obama laying out the costs.

He also said he called Trump’s pick for Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin to talk about security reimbursement costs after Trump takes office.

"We had a good conversation," said de Blasio.

He added, "He's a native New Yorker, so I think that is a helpful reality."

The $35 million bill, which covers Nov. 8 through Jan. 20, covers pretty much all of the reimbursement costs.

De Blasio has repeatedly said he expects the city to be paid back for the huge costs of providing security for the new First Family.

But as the Daily News reported on Sunday, some municipalities in other parts of the country have struggled to be reimbursed, and found the cost of monitoring a hometown president a huge drain on the budget.

De Blasio's comments come shortly after a half-dozen New York City congressmen sent a letter to him and Gov. Andrew Cuomo saying they should refuse to pay to help Trump keep his family in Trump Tower while he's president, citing both the big price tag for the protection and the traffic jams it's creating in Midtown.

"Municipal or state resources should not be subsidizing the President-Elect's decision to maintain multiple permanent residences," the letter reads.

"For all these reasons, we respectfully request that New York City and the state refuse to pay additional security costs associated with maintaining a second residence at Trump Tower once the President-Elect is inaugurated. Should the President-Elect choose to maintain two permanent residences for his family, it is reasonable to request he reimburse the city and the state for all additional security expenses from his own significant personal financial resources."

The letter, spearheaded by Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-Brooklyn),
was signed by Reps. Jerry Nadler (D-Manhattan),
Grace Meng (D-Queens),
Hakeem Jeffries (D-Brooklyn),
Jose Serrano (D-Bronx)
and Yvette Clarke (D-Brooklyn).

Velasquez said, "The simplest solution would be for the First Family to relocate to Washington, D.C. rather than maintaining a second, full-time residence. City taxpayers shouldn't be paying these costs and it seems reasonable to ask President-elect Trump to chip in or foot the bill."

O'Neill said that post-inauguration costs for Trump's family haven't been worked out yet with the Secret Service. Trump's wife Melania and son Barron plan to continue to live in Manhattan so he can finish his school year.

HAWAII (CNN) – Hawaiians more used to dusting sand than ice from their feet have been warned that a winter storm may bring heavy snow to Big Island peaks overnight.

Up to six inches of snow is expected to fall, the National Weather Service says, with a winter storm warning in place until 6 a.m. local time Monday (11 a.m. ET).

The NWS is forecasting heavy snow, blowing and drifting snow, strong winds gusting up to 55 mph and low visibility for the summits of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea.

The conditions will make driving and hiking very dangerous, the NWS warned, with the combination of strong winds and heavy snow making travel potentially “very hazardous or impossible.”

CNN meteorologist Michael Guy says it isn’t unusual for the Big Island summits to experience snowfall in the winter months.

“It usually can snow at elevations above 9,000 feet and some of the summits reach above 13,000 feet.

“There have actually been blizzard warnings for those areas that get snow at those elevations before,” Guy says.

The variation in the island’s elevation allows for colder temperatures at higher altitudes — which can support winter weather precipitation, he says.

Snow also fell on the summits late last week, with photos showing the summit of Mauna Kea cloaked in white Thursday.

Further snow showers are predicted from Wednesday.

The Toronto Police Service recently rolled out a new colour scheme for their cruisers, and as a result, we can add another item to the list of things that “trigger” progressives.

We know about team nicknames, free speech that conflicts with their beliefs, and Halloween costumes that appropriate another’s culture so let's add the paint scheme of a car to the list of things that trigger social justice warriors.

I think the new dark-grey cruisers look superb having never been a fan of the red, white, and blue Toronto cruisers or the bright yellow ones before that.

With the new dark-grey paint job, the cruisers look like they mean business and isn’t that how you want a police cruiser to look?

Yet, the progressives find this colour scheme “offensive”.

According to a graphic designer quoted in a Toronto Star article, these designs convey “oppressive, aggressive, intimidating and combative traits”, and appear to be influenced by films such as Robocop and Batman.

We’re told that the militaristic influence of the paint-scheme is undeniable, and “It’s a disturbing trend to say the least.”

Who knew? A Ford Taurus in dark-grey is “disturbing.”

Toronto’s progressive City Council were upset with Police Chief Mark Saunders for having the audacity to make an independent decision about the colour change and have asked TPSB to keep the red, white and blue colour scheme pending further review.

And so, sensitive Torontonians won’t have to worry about seeing any more dark-grey “militaristic” cruisers prowling around the mean streets of Hogtown with Officer Robocop behind the wheel.

John Key has announced that he will resign as prime minister of New Zealand, after eight years in the job, citing family reasons.

Calling it "the hardest decision I've ever made," an emotional Mr Key said: "I don't know what I'll do next."

Mr Key, a popular leader, said it was a personal decision, and later denied media reports his wife of 32 years, Bronagh, had given him an ultimatum.

He said he would not be seeking a fourth term in the 2017 election.

Deputy Prime Minister Bill English is likely to take over until the National party holds a caucus to choose a new leader.

Mr Key made the surprise announcement during his weekly press conference. He set a date of 12 December for the formal resignation.

He said his job required great sacrifices "from those who are dearest to me" and that his children had coped with "an extraordinary level of intrusion".

"All I can say is that I gave it everything I had. I have left nothing in the tank."

Referring to his wife, he told radio program Newstalk: "We talked about it and she likes the concept of me being home more but there was no ultimatum."

Mr Key, who was formerly at Merrill Lynch as a foreign exchange dealer, ended nine years of Labour Party rule in 2008 when he ousted Helen Clark as prime minister.

He won a third term for the National Party at elections in September 2014.

Former Australian prime minister Tony Abbott played on their two countries' cricketing rivalry to say Mr Key had enjoyed a "fine innings".

"Not many pollies retire unbeaten on a double ton," he tweeted.

Australian Opposition Leader Bill Shorten said: "John Key has been a good friend to Australia. I wish him and his family all the best."
