I am using Ubuntu, 9.04 Jaunty.
I personally recommend it. I believe the last good Windows system was 3.1!

I haven't tried Jaunty. How do you like it? How long have you been using linux BTW?

so i looked into linus so do i just download it and it works like windows and will it remove windows black and will i be able then download msn messenger?

well you will have to download an ISO file on to a disc. I think it needs a "special" disc. What I really think you should do is browse around for the right operating system first. How much do you know about computers? Like do you know about your hardware and the components? I think it's vital to get all the system requirements before choosing the OS. Well it just requires a bit of reading... ADVICE: Burn a "live" disc of ubuntu and try it out. O yea, you won't be using messenger, that's copyright...you will be using "pidgin". Try and read...look around...ALOT of INFO about Linux on the net...darn I'm talking a lot. Good luck....

Seriously if your computer is old...it can still be used at it's full potential with Linux.

For best results, I would stay away from Ubuntu on really old hardware, though. Might try Xubuntu, Lubuntu, though.

Well usually a beginner linux user's best ebt would be to go with ubuntu is because it's not too much of a different OS than windows. I mean graphically. Well technically I think Xandros would be most like windows...but commercial linux also cost money. Personally I didn't like Xandros. I think after using ubuntu for a little while you could probably go with Gentoo. You I recommend liinux to people who also want to learn. It is something to take your time and learn, when exploring different versions. AnyhowI think I am rambling for no reason except for the fact of rambling. Well take care:)

try linux!!!! do you know how to partition your computer? If you don't want to put linux on, I would think you can reinstall windows. It would only make sense, obviously though you would ned that little code/key. Well I don't know much..infact very little about computers. But you can always google your proble. It helps plenty!! Take care!

Seriously if your computer is old...it can still be used at it's full potential with Linux. I know some people might think it to be a difficult OS, but I tend to disagree. Try ubuntu. Usually if you take linux in college or university your are getting the "business" version. Example: red hat, fedora..hence why you might think it's hard or you dislike it. Anyhow, you should seriously look into it dude! It's actually very very simple... just the GUI is different...ofcourse just like anything else you try that is new, it'll be a little difficult "getting" around. It's community own, so you can constantly get upgrades. Advice for anyone sick of windows viruses ect: TRY LINUX! Although I don't really like the name I doubt you would have a complaint. Instructions and everything on the site...tonnes of forums for newbie ect. Try it out!

Hi Chrissy, you have some good advice...tried it, among others as well. Microsoft will always be a problem(just my opinion)! I finally settled for Windows XP for NON-Internet use, and iMac for all my internet stuff. So, far...no issues. But your right, if people only knew that there are over a hundred different operating systems.

You have a fun/safe/great week ahead. That is a cute baby you have there.

thank you for complimenting my son!! It's funny how most people think that windows was the "maker" of computers. Unix based operating systems came about first. Anyways as I think I may have stated earlier I know very little about computers...lol Well take care!
