Remember the reasons why gun free school zone laws were imposed, not why they don't work. GFSZA was not meant to stop school shooters, it was to provide a means to federally prosecute gang members and the like who came packing to school. So point out that the law not only allows things like this to happen easier, but that it's failed in its intended role to boot

The majority of the non-gun owning public thinks gun laws are stricter then they actually are ( this is one thing the brady campaign does right, provides me ideas) use this to your advantage. I want guns allowed "for those licensed to own firearms" (keep in mind the word license means many things, including simple permission, a law allowing you to buy and own firearms with no paperwork is, strictly speaking, a license to own and sell firearms) this will put in their minds the idea that these people are somehow trained or have official type of paperwork without actually lying. this will make things easier politically if people believe the law requires more then it does

Firearms are only the most easy means to kill people, but not the only. a recent skrool massacre in China 22 people died from stab wounds. Bombs can be made easily from house hold products, official US military publications on how to make bombs are freely available for less then two dollars at surplus stores, so while guns are easy, there is plenty of firepower in regular household products sold with no restrictions. 30 dollars in cash I can get 8 gallons of gasoline and a book of matches... that's alot of potential deadly right there....

Finally I conclude with saying, the gun makes it easier for school shooters yes, but it also makes it easier for the 130 pound woman walking home at night to protect herself from the 200 pound rapist, it may be easier to off gang rivals with a gun, but it also makes it easier for a skinny middle age Korean just trying to keep his store open to protect himself against those who would kill him for 20 bucks in the register and a pack of smokes. Or for the outnumbered police officer to make it home to his family at the end of his shift. Guns are a morally neutral tool. they can sybomlize justice and equality just as they can symbolize fear and intimidation. It's important people understand that fact.

A coda I usually use on liberals... this only works on leftists though.... "Is it ok for Brinks to arm their armored car drivers" and they always say "yes" and then I look at them and say "so it's ok for the big corporations to allow people to carry guns to protect their money but not ok for a single mom to carry one to protect her kids" they always look dumbfounded at that one

See this is what happens when the public are unable to critically examine, or unwilling to critically examine the facts, both sides end up strategize how to frame the conversation in order to sound convincing regardless of the facts.

It only harms critical thinking. The post itself has many good points, but see how the person talks about how to present the information to an uneducated group that are sure to have opinions?

Silly. Makes my head hurt.

Mike Adams
Natural News
September 21, 2012

(NaturalNews) The GMO debate is over. There is no longer any legitimate, scientific defense of growing GM crops for human consumption. The only people still clinging to the outmoded myth that “GMOs are safe” are scientific mercenaries with financial ties to Monsanto and the biotech industry.

GMOs are an anti-human technology. They threaten the continuation of life on our planet. They are a far worse threat than terrorism, or even the threat of nuclear war.

As a shocking new study has graphically shown, GMOs are the new thalidomide. When rats eat GM corn, they develop horrifying tumors. Seventy percent of females die prematurely, and virtually all of them suffer severe organ damage from consuming GMO. These are the scientific conclusions of the first truly “long-term” study ever conducted on GMO consumption in animals, and the findings are absolutely horrifying. (See pictures of rats with tumors, below.)

What this reveals is that genetic engineering turns FOOD into POISON.

Remember thalidomide? Babies being born with no arms and other heart-breaking deformities? Thalidomide was pushed as “scientific” and “FDA approved.” The same lies are now being told about GMO: they’re safe. They’re nutritious. They will feed the world!

But the real science now coming out tells a different picture: GMOs may be creating an entire generation of cancer victims who have a frighteningly heightened risk of growing massive mammary gland tumors caused by the consumption of GM foods. We are witnessing what may turn out to be the worst and most costly blunder in the history of western science: the mass poisoning of billions of people with a toxic food crop that was never properly tested in the first place.

A d v e r t i s e m e n t

Remember: GMOs are an anti-human technology. And those who promote them are, by definition, enemies of humankind.

GMOs are unfit for human consumption

The evidence keeps emerging, day after day, that GMOs are absolutely and without question unfit for human consumption. France has already launched an investigation that may result in the nation banning GM corn imports. It’s already illegal to grow genetically modified crops in France, but the nation still allows GMO imports, meaning France still allows its citizens to be poisoned by imported GM corn grown in America.

The GMO industry, not surprisingly, doesn’t want any independent research conducted on GMOs. They don’t want long-term feeding trials, and they most certainly do not want studies conducted by scientists they can’t control with financial ties.

What they want is to hide GMOs in products by making sure they’re not listed on the labels. Hence the biotech industry’s opposition to Proposition 37 (www.CArighttoknow.org).

The tactics of the biotech industry are:

• HIDE genetically modified ingredients in foods
• FALSIFY the research to claim GMOs are safe
• MANIPULATE the scientific debate by bribing scientists
• DENY DENY DENY just like Big Tobacco, DDT, thalidomide, Agent Orange and everything else that’s been killing us over the last century

Monsanto is now the No. 1 most hated corporation in America. The company’s nickname is MonSatan. It is the destructive force behind the lobbying of the USDA, FDA, scientists and politicians that have all betrayed the American people and given in to genetically modified seeds.

These seeds, some of which grow their own toxic pesticides right inside the grain, are a form of chemical brutality against children and adults. This is “child abuse” at its worst. It’s an abuse of all humans. It is the most serious crime ever committed against nature and all of humankind.

Science for sale

That’s what you get with payola science… science “for sale” to wealthy corporations. Nearly all the studies that somehow conclude GMO are safe were paid for by the biotech industry. Every one of those studies is unreliable and most likely fraudulent. Every scientist that conducts “research” for Monsanto is almost certainly a sellout at minimum… and more likely a jackal operative working for an industry of death.

Corporate science is fraudulent science. When enough money is at stake, scientists can be bought off to even declare smoking cigarettes to be safe. And they did, throughout the 1950′s, 60′s and 70′s. Some of those very same scientists are now working for the Monsantos of the world, peddling their scientific fraud to the highest bidder (which always happens to be a wealthy corporation).

There is no poison these scientists won’t promote as safe — even “good for you!” There is no limit to their evil. There are no ethics that guide their actions.

GMO-promoting scientists are the most despicable humanoid creatures to have ever walked the surface of this planet. To call them “human” is an insult to humanity. They are ANTI-human. They are demonic. They are forces of evil that walk among the rest of us, parading as authorities when in their hearts and souls they are actually corporate cowards and traitors to humankind. To pad their own pockets, they would put at risk the very future of sustainable life on our planet… and they do it consciously, insidiously. They feed on death, destruction, suffering and pain. They align with the biotech industry precisely because they know that no other industry is as steeped in pure evil as the biotech industry. GMO pushers will lie, cheat, steal, falsify and even mass-murder as many people as it takes to further their agenda of total global domination over the entire food supply… at ANY cost.

This is war at the genetic level. And this kind of war makes bullets, bombs and nukes look downright tame by comparison. Because the GMO war is based on self-replicating genetic pollution which has already been released into the environment; into the food supply; and into your body.

The hundreds of millions of consumers who eat GMO are being murdered right now, with every meal they consume… and they don’t even know it. GMO-pimping scientists are laughing at all the death they’re causing. They enjoy tricking people and watching them die because it makes their sick minds feel more powerful. These were the geeks in school who were bullied by the jocks. But now, with the power of genetic manipulation at their fingertips, they can invoke their hatred against all humankind and “bully” the entire world with hidden poisons in the food. That makes them smile. It’s the ultimate revenge against a world that mistreated them in their youth. Death to everyone!

Society must respond in defense of life on Earth

The sheer brutality of what the GMO industry has committed against us humanity screams out for a decisive response. It is impossible to overreact to this. No collective response goes too far when dealing with an industry that quite literally threatens the very basis of life on our planet.

To march government SWAT teams into the corporate headquarters of all GMO seed companies and shut down all operations at gunpoint would be a mild reaction — and fully justified. To indict all biotech CEOs, scientists, employees and P.R. flacks and charge them with conspiring to commit crimes against humanity would be a small but important step in protecting our collective futures. To disband all these corporations by government order have their assets seized and sold off to help fund reparations to the people they have harmed is but a tiny step needed in the defense of life.

The truth is that humanity will never be safe until GMO seed pushers and manufacturers are behind bars, locked away from society and denied the ability to ever threaten humanity again.

What the Nuremberg trials did to IG Farben and other Nazi war crimes corporations, our own government must now do to Monsanto and the biotech industry.

It is time for decisive intervention. Monsanto must be stopped by the will of the People. The mass poisoning of our families and children by an evil, destructive corporation that seeks to dominate the world food supply must be halted.

The GMO debate is over. The horrors are now being revealed. The truth can no longer be hidden, and the reaction from the public cannot be stopped.

Prediction: Activist attacks on GM seeds and the criminals who promote them

The era of GMO deception is history. A food revolution is upon us. And if governments will not halt the mass poisoning of our world by evil corporations, I have no doubt that the People will, by themselves, eventually invoke other necessary methods of halting this great evil.

I predict a future where — and for the record I DO NOT encourage this — shipments of GM seeds to farmers are raided and destroyed by activists. I predict Monsanto employees being publicly named and shamed on websites. I predict — but DO NOT CONDONE — scientists who conduct research for Monsanto being threatened, intimidated and even physically attacked. Again, for the record, I DO NOT IN ANY WAY condone such behavior, but I predict it will emerge as an inevitable reaction to the unfathomable evil being committed by the GMO industry and all its co-conspirators. The “Army of the 12 monkeys” may become reality. (See the sci-fi movie “12 monkeys” starring Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis.)

What we are fighting for here is the protection of our species. We are fighting for the sanctity of life on our planet. Those who threaten that life must be stopped from continuing to harm us. This evil must be put back in its box and prevented from ever threatening us again.

Even Congress is starting to state the obvious on how evil Monsanto really is. Just yesterday, Congressman Dennis Kucinich demanded GMO labeling in a powerful speech. Watch that at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J_YvtbSSqg

Also, watch this video of the French scientists discussing how GMOs and Roundup caused grotesque cancer tumors to grow in mice:

You will have to go to the webpage to view the short video but it is worth seeing

Seriously anyone quoting natural news needs to take some time and critically evaluate the site and its content as a whole. Mike Adams is not someone you should go to for facts, analysis, or critical thinking.

What Mosanto is doing is not something I would support, but taking articles from Natural News is not a winning strategy.

The crap of the world is piled so very high. Every new fix just adds more crap. When you realize there is no fix, then freedom becomes possible.

On the other hand, a good beer never hurts. Cheers!
(please drink in moderation)

Depending on the world, the freedom one tastes may be very limited, but as limited as it might be, we should savour the taste and take whatever joy it gives us while we can. I'm reminded of the parable of the strawberry:

http://ashidakim.com/zenkoans/18aparable.html

...but beer is good too! drinker

Buddha told a parable in sutra:

A man traveling across a field encountered a tiger. He fled, the tiger after him. Coming to a precipice, he caught hold of the root of a wild vine and swung himself down over the edge. The tiger sniffed at him from above. Trembling, the man looked down to where, far below, another tiger was waiting to eat him. Only the vine sustained him.

Two mice, one white and one black, little by little started to gnaw away the vine. The man saw a luscious strawberry near him. Grasping the vine with one hand, he plucked the strawberry with the other. How sweet it tasted!
Deep!

Now lets talk about the critters that do not share our genetic constraints with aging!!!

http://news.softpedia.com/news/The-Recorded-Longest-Lived-Animals-60688.shtml

. . . and apparently there exists jelly fish that maybe be hundreds of years old, and a fungus in the NW of US that may be the largest and oldest living species on earth.

Just image what we could do with the knowledge to adapt humanity to include these same properties.

refer to my new post if you are interested in true scientific hypothesis
"telomeres Secrets of Aging and Imortality"

Well, solving the problem of the diminishing telomere does not get us anywhere near immortality, unless of course science modifies our genetics to the point of being immune to every disease or immune disorder and every toxic substnace whether natural of man-made.

But even then we would still have to worry about over population, and the human destruction of our environment that would lead to starvation.

Given some sudden ability to be immortal and immune to all those things - humans would also have to, simultaneously, develop a homogenous sense of values with great regard to enviornmental healing and continued sustainablity of the enironment that support us. AND what about the birth rate? Would humans also deny their desire and instinct to breed once Earth's human capacity had been reached?

These are all the reasons why immortality is a fantasy that's confined to the philisophical realm of mysticism i.e. spiritualism and religion.
I think all of the reasons you pointed out show that your own conclusion must be wrong. Each of the hurdles you presented are possible to overcome. That means given enough time it would be guaranteed to occur somewhere, somehow.

I read a lot of sci fi, maybe I am just biased, but I think its just a matter of time. Also, why make this exclusive to humanity . . . I just say, some intelligent species somewhere will eventually figure this stuff out and fit it into their culture without destroying themselves in the process.

Just my .02

first, as stated many times before, numbers can be manipulated by choosing which data to compare
That is right, and how the data is collected is even more important. In the UK someone killed is not considered a homicide, for data reporting purposes, until the investigation is closed. This screws their data horridly.

once again, cARS ARE MANUFACTURED AS TRANSPORTATON, not as tools of death
The response is to those claiming gun violence is our biggest problem, or making it out to be a bigger problem than it is.

HOWEVER, what you have said would probably get plenty of disagreement from anyone who has ever defended themselves with a firearm. I am sure they would refer to it as a tool of life, not death, especially if they didn't have to take one to save their own.

works for weed too, actually, (not saying it stops people from smoking weed, but certainly it deters many many others from smoking it whose main reason for abstaining is the law)
Based on what figures? Uptake of pot smoking has increased every year regardless of the severity of punishment.

Sorry, but you cant connect facts to conclusions to save your life.

Pro/anti-gun people hate to see innocent people killed. T/F

1) Guns convey great power. T

2) Guns come with great responsibility. T

3) Mentally ill/incompetent people should not have guns. T

4) Violent criminals should not have guns. T

5) Everyone has the right to defend themselves by any reasonable means. T

6) Violent criminals will always have guns no matter what laws are in place. T (I would have said, anyone sufficiently motivated to kill will find a way, but sure . . .T)

7) Anyone owning a gun should be well trained in its safe handling, maintenance and use. T (True, but who is the arbitrator of what the standards are, NOT THE GOVT WHO THINKS AN ASSAULT WEAPON IS ANYTHING SUFFICIENTLY SCARY LOOKING)

8) Not having the means to save lives means being helpless to do so and possibly letting people die. T

After reading this thread, I'm thinking everyone is blurring the lines to reflect personal feelings...
The second amendment to the United States Constitution was adopted in 1791 and contains ONLY two clauses, both are pretty easy to understand...The first, "a well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state"
and..The second, "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed upon"

According to CONSTITUTIONAL LAW, the second clause is "controlled" by the first clause...This is something many overlook...Because the Constitution was written to serve as a "Living document" the use of structuralism was necessary...Structuralism, or its interpretation, is based on what is good for society "as a whole" as opposed to what is good "for each individual"...How these two opposing approaches are interpreted is what fuels the problem of gun control ... Even the courts confuse interpretation...

A lot has changed since 1791...Gun control legislation is an ongoing process....As society changes so does the need for more effective gun control....Taking individual rights away from responsible, law abiding citizens is certainly not the answer, but how do you justify preserving individual rights once those rights reach a point of monumental abuse?...I wish I knew...

Statistics show cars are the monumental abuse leading to a massive loss of life, when set on the same chart you can hardly see the bar for gun deaths.

IMHO, emotions led us to these ridiculous conclusions, not logic, not reason, and certainly nothing intelligent can creep into the hysterical perfect storm of save the children meets evil black gun.

Take historical data and chart total violence leading to death as a percentage of the total population of earth and what you discover is that there has never been a safer time to live than right now.

The reality is that this whole debacle as it relates to gun control is a distraction from anything even approaching a solution, and it is for pure political gain, nothing else.

Oh and brandishing your weapon during road rage or at the neighbor you hate over a dispute might be considered life threatening to a gun fanatic....
Where did you get that? Not from the FBI's data . . .

. . . and minor correction, all incident added up to hundreds of thousands, only a small % involved shooting, but clearly not all of them were stopped by merely brandishing a firearm.

Okay I will concede...almost never is pretty close to never....
Millions of examples, but no you would never accept people being asked on surveys if they had ever brandished a weapon in defense of their lives.

Even if you only accept a small % of those it would be significant.

Interestingly enough the FBI has done independent research and shown hundreds of thousands of people every year successfully use a firearm to defend themselves from an attack which could have lead to serious harm or death. Doesn't take many years to add up to millions.

So even the most conservative estimates make it millions of examples over 20 years of data.

Not.

Not valid because it would be main stream worthy.

So it is just some garbage made up by the gun fanatics.

Dont worry, I will. They know to take cover while I try to take the active shooter out.
