The only reason we're stuck at this discussion is because the greater part of Humanity still hasn't discovered the concrete truth! (just as the origin of the Deist phenomenon itself has appeared in an attempt of explaining the UNEXPLAINED -- due to the lack of knowledge).
Yet, the general tendency appears to be leaning towards the Atheism -- the less of the Unexplained remains, i.e. the farther we grasp the nature, the less of Deity remains.
And the same reffers to the spiritual side of humanity! (as much as we pride ourselves for being "SPIRITUAL BEINGS"...}

Eventually, when "the lack" would completely separate from knowledge, there would be no need for such a psychological cratch as Deity!
