Who is God?

"God" is not a name though. It is a description, a job title if you like. The bible talks about other "gods" who are likewise described as "god" as in this example: "and these he took back to the temple of his god." This shows that the word "god" is not a name but a description of something. Happy new year to OP and all.
The relocation of the United States of America's embassy from Telaviv to Jerusalem and the ripple effects was the hot topic for me. During the election campaigns, I did mention here that America's foreign policy thrust under Donald Trump was going to be controversial if he wins. This president doesnt just talk the 'talk but works the talk'. As an international observer, I think we'll see more controversial decisions that may make America's European allies uncomfortable this 2018. I think president Trump is a very strong man. Does been a world class billionaire instill so much courage in one,or is it something else? Maybe the God-courage, since he tends to be doing the God agenda too-so it seems in the eyes of some who are watching from the outside. |

All conversations can be said to be trying to 'convert' others towards a certain belief if stating a disparate opinion or questioning the opinions of others count as converting. I am grateful there is a religion thread here to share opinions on and debating the merits of topics in the realm of religion. I am also glad to be in a country where we are not in threat of lethal government ramifications for doing so. I wonder if the OP believes anyone could understand Gods reasoning even if He answered us, it would be like an ant trying to understand Artificial Intelligence, wouldn't it? Yes Msharmony,we can never know all of God even when we see him face to face-we can only continue to grow in our knowlegde of him. Y'know, I was mildly interested in the OP to see if it would turn into another conversion tactic and it has. That's what I hate about religion. Religion will not allow anyone to believe what they want. There is always some attempt to convert them to 'The Path'. I am a good person. I'm a good person because I choose to be, not because somebody or some book tells me I have to be good. I am content with my life as it is. I have no desire to hope for promises. I can die without fear of loss. I don't need some fairytale to hold onto. Preach any gospel you want. Quote any passage you want. I live in the now, moment by moment. Life isn't complicated, isn't scary, its just life. Bored now.... I wholeheartedly agree! Yay......someone who's on the same wavelength as me

I know you think that makes sense. I am under the impression that God is, well...God. Why would God need a book of written words when God could just make His wishes known in the hearts of all men? Dear Tom, it is very important that I show to you the easy steps to Jesus Christ your loving Saviour. Untill you whole heartedly admit him into your heart , these things wont make sense to you. How to invite Jesus the Christ(saviour) into your heart: Spiritual Sense 1 Recognize that all humans inherited the nature of sin,including you and hence need the Savior Jesus Christ. Everyone is\was once a sinner. It is not your fault that you are one.(Romans 3:23) Spiritual Sense 2 Jesus Christ had paid fully the penalty for your sins and all humanity through his death. He is your righteousness(2 Corinthians 5:21) Spiritual Step 3 Ask him in. Jesus Christ wants to come into your heart(Revelation 3:20) 'I Stand at the door and knock if any Man hear my voice,and open the door..... |

Tom4uhere, its either you have some deep rooted bitterness against God which makes you have biased mind toward his inspired word or you outrightly dont understand it.
God will answer Man's questions through his inspired word(rhema),not just the written(logos) as documented in the bible. To access the rhema out of the logos,the author-God, the Holy Spirit must be involved. The reason you dont understand the bible is because you lack the presence of the person of the Holy Spirit-the very Spirit of Jesus Christ-the very Spirit of God. Consider this 1 peter 1 v 20-21 'knowing this that no prophesy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. V21 For the prophesy came not in the old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost' Therefore, every interpretation not by the Holy Ghost is false,and must be rejected. Also, every interpretation that does not recognize Jesus Christ ,born of virgin Mary,crucified and shed his blood for the sins of humanity |

Tom4uhere,the scriptures(holy writ) are the mind of God.
2 Timothy 3:16 'All scriptures are given by the inspiration of God'.... By using them to answer your questions, God is answering for himself. The bible contains the mind of God. The works of other authors you mentioned contains their mind or some other's mind. |

I do not think people seek physical or spiritual health as much as they do to be 'happy' and there are many spiritually and physically unhealthy choices that, in the flesh, give us this fleeting feeling of 'happiness' I dont know that it will change, as we move forward trying to seek happiness above all else and trying to make life lived as effortless as possible, we are moving toward more automation and AI which will make our physical activity even less, and we keep pushing for more and more 'happiness' which will often come at the cost of our spiritual and physical health the more we move toward an ideal of being 'freedom' centric ... the more often people will be leaning on their own poor choices .... its just where we are. Happiness is fleeting...joy is permanent. God the Holy ghost saturates our spirit,soul and body with joy. He is the source of everlasting joy(Galatians 5 v 22) When you have his joy flowing from within ,you'll naturally be happy. |
