My sister has Norton on her computer, I stopped using it a long time ago, but she wants to disable the phishing component on it and I do not know how to tell her to do that. She is not very computer knowledgeable....so if anyone can tell me how to tell her to disbable this particularly annoying feature, I would be grateful. flowerforyou

I totally agree!!! She lives three hours away from me so I can't just go and yank it off her computer. Just wanna fix this phishing thing for her until I can visit and trash-can Norton altogether!

They all have their good and bad. At least with AVG or Zonealarm you don't have to pay for the bad.

Yeah, I know and so is AVAST, but right now I just need to fix this little phishing problem until I can get to her and get her on a free and BETTER program

go too remove programs

remove norton

go to grissoft and load avg free

google avg free should come up this updates as scheduled

it is better than norton and free

tehy also have a anti-spyware that is free
but needs ran/updated manually

i have found it easier to over options to those that ask
then let them do as they wish but remove myself from the issue
if they choose another route

my reply is ussually i said what i would do
you choose not to do it if which is fine
but if you do not listen how can i help you

sounds cold but seems reasonable
especially with a family member

but do not write them off and offer advice as requested
if they listen cool if not all you can do is take comfort in knowing you tried (i went throught this same issue [norton] with my son when he says it is acting up i ask you still using norton
and yes is always the answer -- my response is well what you expect and just chuckle about it --

then i go check it out and so far it has not been a virus per norton anyway usually just a misclick somewhere

good luck family is the hardest to help
be well

and may much good come to you and yours

ya could change it when they are not looking  laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

I appreciate all that Robin, but the problem is trying to help someone via e-mail or messenger because she is also in dial-up, who is not computer knowledgable and is still 'afraid' of her computer....it is difficult to explain to her how to do things and I have no idea what is going on at her end. When I see her I plan to over-haul her computer, right now I just want to disable this phishing thing that is causing her problems and deal with the rest of it when I can be there and just do it.

Get ONE CARE. Very reasonably priced. $39.00 at Walmart. Very easy to use. It cleans the disc's, removes virus's, defrags, and tune~ups and repairs. Can't beat it.....I have it and very easy to use. Just set the time you want it to run and off it goes. A problem in between, just bring up your ONE CARE and hit Start Tuneup. That simple. Mine runs once a week and keeps my computer running at it's fastest............

There is probably no way to tell a person who is a computer novice and afraid of the computer how to do anything via email or over the phone. It is probably better that she just leave it until someone can help her with it.

I use Mcafee and it works better then Norton and my version of Mcafee is free.

I also really would use Spybot search and destroy, as that program today help removed a very new spy wear and I didn't have to do all that crap that I was reading off of yahoo and some sites just to fix my spy ware / adware problem.

Spybot search and destroy works bottom line.

I would also get CyberDefender because that also works as well.

Get windows advanced care, because that also works and it's free.

I use AVG for all protection...it runs fast scans does not slow your puter down and is relatively cheap...you can select each item from a menu and turn it on or off at any time

Paid like 50 bucks for the high grade software package at office store
