if we all see the world in the same way. Because we all from birth hold up the same things and give them the same names.

For example.
If a child was born with an inverted color perception, there would be no way of knowing. Because when they are learning colors, they will learn lets say the color red, but see green. Whatever everyone else calls red, this child will call red, but in their mind, they will see green. Everything that is the color green in their mind is actually the color red in everyone else's mind, but it doesn't matter because everyone will still call it red. Just like when the child sees red, but calls the color blue. Everything everyone sees thats blue, the child will also understand as blue, and will call everything that is blue, blue, but the child actually seeing red.

What if you have an inverted color perception?! And all the colors you see aren't what everyone else sees?!

I've wondered about how my cats cope, too. They have different retinae set up and color perception, too. But, like you say, we are born with built in coping mechanisms.
I like the deep thinkin' !!!drinker

laugh

Everyone will see "blue" "green" etc. Because those are the names we've associated them with, but we might all be seeing some other color.

huh Color theory is scientifically proven principles based upon of the reflection of light. Eyes are tools to allow this light reflection to be processed by our brain, accordingly so.

Red to you is red to me... we are viewing the same thing... because our eyes are constructed the same way...

but go deeper, what if it's really not red, and we only think it is, and space aliens come and they KNOW it's green???

I am red/green color blind. I never knew it until I was 17 years old when the an army physical told me. There are many colors that other people see that I have never seen, pink, brown, amber, turqoise just being a few of the names I can't associate with. Yes, brown hair appears green to me!

I remember words to a Moody Blues song that fits my perception of colors. It the poetcic end to Nights In hite Satin from their Days of Future Pasy album...

Cold hearted orb that rules the night..removes the colors from our sight..red is gray and yellow white..but we decide which is right..and which is..an illusion

God, I have sooooo much wrong with me

Everybody sees the world differently. Perception makes reality.

BobbyJ just displayed how we can know that normal eyes see things the same...

His eyes are not like most, observably so...

Therefore his recognition of color varies accordingly...

Oddly enough, I know a finisher(painter) who has a similar condition to BobbyJ's but the guy is by far, the best I have ever seen at matching stain and/or finish hues....

Go figure...huh

That's true, like your friend, I do perceive the subtlest of shade changes. I also have unbelievable night vision!

Colors are constructed the same way but if someone is born unusual, whose color perceptions are inverted, then its different

Colorblindedness is different
Its not about being color blind as much as seeing every color, only since there may be something wired incorrectly in you or something, you percieve colors inverted, so all the colors are seen, so no one is able to find out people who have these inverted color perceptions
