i'm not sure just how i feel about this...

if we require medical treatment for children, where does it stop? what if the lawmakers declare that certain procedures absolutely have to be followed...it's a slippery slope.

i really believe that a parent should have the right to refuse treatment for a child...a judge can, of course, overrule this.

i'm fairly certain these parents have had their heart broken. i'm also pretty sure that they weren't trying to harm their kiddo...

I have to agree, and we don't have the entire story, the child was diabetic, was it type I or II, was she insulin dependant, or on pills or diet, was she sick with flu like symptoms, or was it much more serious....WE DON"T KNOW, and are assuming at this point.

My child would have been at the hospital, but that is only what I would do.... I can't make judgement calls on other people's kids...

This is where I hit a stumbling block....

Respect of life is paramount, and as parents the preservation of a NON terminal child's life, with a TREATABLE illness...is paramount.

Split hairs till the cows come home...

A child died today through ignorance.... and religious belief.

Isn't much difference, to a child suicide bomber in the middle east, in my eyes.

as a mom of special needs children, i'm often given WAY different ideas on courses of treatment. it's my job to weed through them and decide which, if any, i should follow.

are they too invasive? too risky? what's the good points/bad points? all that good stuff...

i'll be damned if someone makes those choices FOR me...and if we started doing such, then more people would be reticent to even TAKE their babes to the doc.

Rather blunt, but yes I agree.

I've been diabetic since I was 6, so I was a special needs kid.... I'm with you... My parents took me to the best doctor in the area, and did what was needed, but still, there were things that had to be weeded threw...

However if the op is correct she hadn't been to the dr in 8 years.... that's not good for her, but if she was getting the meds she needed, and followed her diet... eh... it's scetchy...

I hope they had the kid in the right place with the Lord before she passed away. You have to pass the word when you can because you never know what is going to happen.

I believe in going to doctors. I don't have much luck with self healing or prayer or all of that.

Doctors to a decent job and the Lord blesses their talents, too, I think.

My stepmother's in bad shape and I'm worried about her, by the way. I hope they can figure what's wrong with her. She was slated for kidney removal Monday and had to cancel because of a case of runs that hospitalized her. My stepsister the doctor is there helping her get some medical opinions. Frankly, I'm quite concerned.

Kay's a woman of faith and God will take care of her, one way or another so that's a comfort.

Still, I'd love to have my stepmother stick around and I'm glad she's seeing doctors.

The parents will probably be in a bit of trouble, get a year or two's probation at the least and go through a bunch of legal mumbo jumbo. A shame that they didn't take advantage of what medical help was available to them.

Faith is great, but you need reason to go with it, too, I think.

this is such a sensitive subject............do i dare post

Well we all know what we would do and that is take our children to the doctors and the many here that know me, know I always seam to be taking one of them to the doctors...............................BUT............

I also believe in our country we have rights to parent....rights to believe in any faith.........and not to infringe on others rights to achieve our own personal goals. And is thet not what we are trying to do here is infringe on the rights of these parent to bring there children up with there beliefs. I am sure authorities were in the home of these people and if they are the religion I think then they have other children......so with that I will guess there was no mental or physical abuse or the other children would have been removed from the home.

So how tragic this may be in my view. We need to stay out of there beliefs. And let them live there life the way they seem fit.

just a thought I never hear about many doctors or hospitals for that matter getting prosicuted for not treating people w/o health insurance or money to pay. They just get some high dollar laywer rich making up some story. So what is the difference
