Because of existing prejudices within religions about members of our society, we would be creating another Middle East here if we ever let religion take control in the government.

Do you believe that church and state should be separate? Separation of church and state? Yes and no. Yes, in the sense that nobody wants to live under a theocracy. No in the sense that every day in that many peices of relgion have been made part of our government. The 10 commandments are in the Supreme Court building. The Declaration of Independence speaks of God and calls God "our creator". And especially in the current sense, that people of all religions are allowed to speak and vote their conscience. |

I don't believe that government ought to mandate religious practice OR the absence of religious practice, as seems to be the case in the California ruling about home schooling.
I believe the religion should be considered in the drafting and passing of legislation and in the nomination and confirmation of judges and other governmental personnel, but neither do I believe that religion should be the sole consideration in drafting legislation and the confirmation process. I think that we have about the right mix of church and state with affairs as they stand currently. I believe that God blesses and ordains our leaders and they gain whatever powers they have from him. One day, I believe, Jesus will return and reign supreme, but till then, we're mostly in charge, which, I think, is how it should be. we're doing pretty good at screwing things up, aren't we? |

Indeed we are. And we'll continue to screw them up as long as we have people in government who practice delusional religious dogma. |

seperation of church and state exist only an illusion when it is obvious that the government use religion to it's advantage because an army that fights without a moral cause are barbarians, religion gives an army a moral reason to fight beyond it's borders ...God even told George Bush to invade Iraq and Afghanistan

If we had a government that decided to let religion rule over governmental procedures and laws, then some powerful dictator or president would have the right to choose which religion would rule, then what if he choose a religion that was not your religion?
Lets say they created a new religion altogether? Then anyone who did not agree would be arrested, tried and sent to prison for defying the great holy spaghetti monster God or the Orion Queen Goddess? No, I think we should keep them separate. |

I think he is a very dangerous and delusional man. |
