I lived with a guy back in the '80s. We never married. After I left him, I moved 3 or 4 times within the same state (New Jersey); got married; got divorced; moved to CT; moved around there a couple of times; moved to PA.

I just got a call from an attorney's office looking for him. How they heck did they track me down? We never owned any property together, had any shared credit cards; nothing.

Weird.

I have no idea where he is.

They check computerxs for people that were at the same address, use phone bills, electric bills, old leases etc... and when they find you they call looking for them. I've had that happen 2.

They probably saw that you two lived together (or atleast had the same mailing address), and just tracked bills from there. Apparently he did a better job of hiding than you did.

Possibly bills. If they have a record of his addresses from his bills, and they can find out if anyone else was paying bills from the same address at the same time, they can back track that way. Seems time consuming to research it, but it keeps some people in jobs at least.

somewhere along the lines your ssn was associated with his, either on an account of some sort, lease, applications or such. once you've been associated with him like that all they have to do is run a credit check on that ssn and it will tell them your last known address, phone, where you've lived and all of that. the lawyers are just running down every person associated with him in however many years seeing if anybody knows where he is at the moment. standard practice....

i just got a call from a collection agency looking for my ex because she didn't pay a bally's bill for over a year now and they found me off the credit card she used to make the first payment. thats all it took.
