Ohhhhh, I am going to stir the pot here..... What about the diagnosis of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome? Has anyone been exposed to that....and the plethera of drugs that go along with the diagnosis?  has nothing to do with the topic |

Ok now its my turn to say how I feel! I have 2 boys, one with ADD and one with ADHD, so I know all about this topic. I am one of the lovely people who decided to medicate my children. I had a choice and medication was my choice! I took both my boys to 2 doctors, a psychiatrist plus my brother is a psychologist. EVERY single one of them stated that each one of my boys could be a "poster child" for this disease. If you have never been around a child that actually has this, then truly..you have no clue! Both my boys stated that they felt like they had a million thoughts spinning in their brain when they were not on the meds. Could you imagine feeling that way, I sure couldn't. They said it made them feel like they were going crazy. BUT after we found the correct medicine for them, you wouldn't believe the difference. Both my boys are great students. My oldest son is now in college and is already certified in Microsoft. Both boys are very smart and lead a very calm life now. As far as S.S./Disability goes, I have no clue about that. I feel like this, if your child is found disabled, then obviously theres a reason for them collecting the money..more power to you! My youngest son has 4 disorders and we do not get any type of benefits for him. I think if people complain about other people getting disability, you have way to much time on your hands!! I like the commercial were they compare it to someone flipping channels on a tv constantly and not leaving it on one long enough to grasp the show. It's like someone flcikering a light switch |

No clue, it's not one that I've ever had a dealing with, the floor is yours! To yellowrose....there is the definite possibility that ADHD could be a result of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.... There are no simple answers to your questions about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS). First of all, the Syndrome is the result of the fetus being exposed to alcohol in utero by the mother's abuse of alcohol during pregnancy. FAS itself is diagnosed, with difficulty, only if the alcohol exposure is known. It is a syndrome that has a wide range of manifestations. Some children have very few problems while others have severe deficits, such as facial abnormalities, low IQ, learning disabilities, ADHD (attention deficit hyperativity disorder)-like symptoms. The diagnosis must be made by an experienced clinician. No treatments are universally effective for FAS or the variants on the continuum which includes the designation, Fetal Alcohol Effects. I know of no specifically designed school programs that address Fetal Alcohol syndrome, exclusive to other types of learning and behavior problems. Most school programs for special needs are problem-focused, such as BD (Behavioral Disorder) programs for children with behavior problems, or special education programs that focus on the learning disabilities. Programs and medical interventions need to be tailored to the child's needs. Counseling and therapy services are available at the Alegent Health Psychiatric Associates. fetal alcohol syndrome COULD be a cause..I would not deny that since I don't know. I know my son doesn't have it because of that. So I'm sure that may be one of the causes

there are several interesting correlations with ADHD. parental drug usage, even years before conception, for instance...

true...but they can come up with them for pretty much anything these days.
No one knows for sure what causes it. Many factors can apply. But it's not a behavioral issue. It can lead to one, but others without ADD/ADHD can have behavioral problems as well. I always thought Ritalin was nothing more than sugar...and doctors just say it helps so they can make money, which in actuality the true affects of Ritalin on the mind and body is controlled by the person taking it (as with all medications). Just slap your kid over the head when they act out and get on with it, no need to pay money for a "magic" pill. do you really think abuse is the answer?? did being slapped upside the head ever stop you from doing something?? no!! Ritalin is not just sugar, it is a stimulant...my son is 7...and has been on the Daytrana Patch for about 6 months now...his behavior is 180 degree difference from how he is without it...he is one that needed it...and he is genetically predisposed to having it..both his father and uncle have it, both are still on meds for it too...or should be. it is night and day when he doesn't wear the patch...even missing one day has some serious changes in his behavior and ability to control himself... yes, it is can be misdiagnosed..but for some it's very very much a serious problem...so please don't make light of the disorder and don't think that it's not real!! |

a friend of mine when her son was little he had issue and they determined that he was adhd and he was the medication for awhile, and one time before she got him on the meds she was at a friends house, and i had just left there, as to find out she called the police for he was hitting her, (this child was 4yrs old) and beating on his mom and she called the police.. hes now 16yrs old but i dont know how hes doing now as i havent talked or seen her for yrs |
