I have watched and debated in threads in this forum and I've noticed some people lump everyone together. Whether it's something that happened in the past by a certain sect or because of a sect acting one way.

As for me...I'm a christian but I don't force my views on others or think others are wrong for what they believe. I was brought up to believe to respect others. I, for one, don't like being lumped in with those that do push their views or from what some have done in the past.

No one is perfect and unless you are...please don't cast stones on others.

having a debate and discussing views is great and that is how we learn about ourselves and others.

Just my 2 cents flowerforyou

Those two cents are worth a million.

Sterotypes ... that's what lumping is about.

Everybody knows they should get to know a person first, before they "lump" them into any group.

I get lumped into different groups, depending on who is doing the lumping. LOL

Atheists lump me with "believers" (Imagine that.)

Believers, lump me with pagans or Satan worshipers, or atheists. (Imagine that?)

They both lump me with Wiccan and Witches and I am neither.

People like to label other people because that is the way the mind works. It is just trying to find a shelf to place you on in their mind.

Its really kind of funny.

sometimes labels help clarify for others...if i have every assume you were in any group unless i saw you say it...i am really sorry jennie. i don't think i have though (i am sure you were speaking in general though.) I even said sorry to miles because i assumed wrong

i have no problem owning up when i am wrong and will say sorry.

i think you get my idea behind the thread jennie & zap. for that i thank you for any positive input you may have given

i just get tired of the negative debates. i certainly have no problem with other beliefs and i love learning about people. my problem is the negative part of "lumping" or "debate"

jennie if you ever get bored and would like to email me about what you believe, i would love to hear about it.flowerforyou

I don't ever get bored, but as near as I can find a label for myself... pantheist would have to be it.

I am certainly a heretic.

What I really want to say is that what "I believe" is not really important to anyone besides me.

I don't really subscribe to any belief system, I consider things. I evaluate information from every source, I hold a picture of the world and the universe and the reality loosely.

I change that picture when new information is added if it fits anywhere.

JB

When people give me new information, I don't say whether I will believe it or not.

I tell them I will consider it..... for eternity.

Truth is information.

Also, when I try to talk to hard core scientists, they think I am in La La land, because I consider some pretty outlandish things.

When I talk to people in "La La" land, (those who believe in all kinds of fairy-land ideas or worship aliens as gods) when I ask them for logic or some minuscule amount of proof or reason, and they view me as some sort of unbelieving, close minded atheist scientist.

I am just looking for reason and evidence. If you preach that the tooth fairy really does exist, I would like some evidence before I consider that notion.

Does that make sense?

of course it does. for me i don't need science to prove my beliefs...but that is just me. i won't tell someone they are wrong for what they believe in...and if i do, i hope someone calls me out on it. maybe i just needed to explain myself or i will apologize. i'm not a hypocrite and i have many friends believing in many different things. i was brought up christian and i believe in those things. i don't believe in "organized religion) but willing to admit i might be wrong if i had found a "home church" that i like. my family says my grandmother's house is the buckle of the bible belt...but she also brought us up to accept others for who they are. if both want to discuss beliefs that is fine...but i wasn't brought up to push my beliefs either

hope that made sense...i'm working on lack of sleep here laugh

You may not need science to prove you beliefs, but you need a reason... everyone has a reason for what they believe.
