OK, this is a really stupid question. I am making Easter eggs with my son tomorrow. It is going to be both of our first times. But I am not worried about that. What I need to know is. How do you boil an egg without cracking it? Seems like each time I try to boil eggs they come out cracked on me. And well I really do not want cracked easter eggs.

what she said...and, put the eggs in when the water is cold, and slowly bring it to a boil...geves them a chance to coagulate before the water gets too hot and they boil

Put the eggs in first, then add the water. SOmetimes they break when they hit the bottom of the pot. Also, don't over boil. It should take about 8 minutes to boil and egg.

put eggs in a saucepan, fill w/cold water, bring to boil, turn off burner, leave pan on burner, put lid on pan, set timer for 20 mins...pour off hot water, rinse in cold water a few times or just let them set in cold water til you're ready for them...and voila!!! boiled eggs
the older the eggs are the easier they are to peel if you're going to eat them at some point |

i know u shouldnt turn the heat on the stove wayyyyyyy high...cuz then the eggs dont crack they EXPLODE! i did that one the other day..

Thank you all for not laughing at me. So I should add the eggs as the water is boiling? Or after the water boils?

The best way so the eggs don't crack is to place the eggs in the water before u start boiling the water. When done boiling then place them in cool water. Good luck. Now they make it so much easier to color them then the ole vinegar and tab dissolving method.

DRILL A VERY SMALL HOLE IN ONE END OF EACH EGG!!!!!!
there is air inside and it will expand as will the egg when cooked. It relieves pressure. Many egg cookers, espeacially old ones, will have a little point in a cradle somehwere on the holder to gently punch through the shell. But a very sharp knife will work with light twisting pressure as turned point first into the shell like a drill. Be gentle and patient. Good luck! Hard boiled eggs without the mess, all the time, here. BUT!! the hole will color the white of the egg inside somewhatunless filled before coloring. superglue works |

First, buy qulaity eggs, like from a dairy store. Then, depending on how many eggs your going to cook, pick a pan that all of the eggs will easily sit on the bottom. Put the eggs in the pan, turn the burner on high. Fill the pan with cool tap water until the eggs are completely covered. Bring the eggs to a boil, turn down the heat to medium. Boil for 15 to 20 minutes depending on the number of eggs. A little longer won't hurt, but don't forget them and let them boil dry. When their done, pour off the hot water and flush them with cold water. I put ice in my water to cool them faster. Another tip, I take them off the burner when the water has boiled about halfway down the eggs. Hope that helps! Good luck and have fun! My favorite ones were always the ones that cracked and a little dye got on the inside of the egg! It looks really cool! Nan
