From today's Dear Abby HUSBAND REMAINS IN THE DARK ABOUT WIFE'S NIGHTTIME VISITOR DEAR ABBY: I am 27, and my wife, "Marybeth," is 26. We recently went to my folks' house for supper. That evening a heavy snowstorm was starting and, because the trip home is 30 miles, we decided to stay overnight. My old bedroom is upstairs, as are the rooms of my brothers, ages 25, 24 and 22. The guest room is downstairs. Because the room is quite small, and Marybeth said she felt a cold coming on, we decided I'd sleep in my old room. The next day, while we were driving home, Marybeth told me she was glad I had come to her room after all and made love to her. Abby, it wasn't me! She had mistaken one of my brothers for me in the darkness. We are all about the same size and build. I have talked to each of my brothers (they all know about this), but they won't say who it was for fear of causing a rift between the guilty party and me. I told them that unless I find out who it was, there will be a permanent rift between all of us. (Marybeth still doesn't know it wasn't me.) How do I handle this? -- ENRAGED IN ROCHESTER, N.Y.

OMG. dear Husband: you should tell your wife about this, you could end up creating a rift between you and your wife if she finds out another way! (and lying is NOT the way to go!) talk to your brothers separately, make sure that it's clear that this is ALL confidential, and find out the truth, make sure your wife knows who is is too!!

I wouldn't trust any of them...if the 2 brothers that didn't do it knew about it...they should have stopped it to begin with. How disrespectful. The other thing is....how could the wife NOT know it wasn't her husband? You get used to someone...you know how they move, etc..... she didn't notice something different?

I wouldn't trust any of them...if the 2 brothers that didn't do it knew about it...they should have stopped it to begin with. How disrespectful. You get used to someone...you know how they move, etc..... she didn't notice something different? ya unless she'd been drinking or something .. I have to say I think she KNEW it wasn't him. I'm thinking the husband isn't too bright. Let's look at the facts: "The brothers are all the same size and build." Really? The same size in EVERY way? Is there a room dark enough to not see the face in front of you at all? Do they have the same haircuts, too? The same smell? The same breath? You're staying with your wife in a house with 3 other men that look like you, and you're leaving your wife alone?? If your wife is getting sick, you're going to get sick too, it's pretty much inevitable.

i dunno...if i'm reeeally out of it, i might NOT know. what if she'd taken a sleeping pill, or had a bit too much to drink?

Actually you wonder if the scenario isn't contrived .. ie, poor Abby must get sick of the same ?'s, same drama .. day in, day out. I'm thinkin' just like they plant people to ask ?'s in talk shows that this is a crock. Yep. I'm thinkin it is

i am a VERY deep sleeper. it would have worked with me. especially if i was convinced it was a dream...
