* marksmanship (handgun, shotgun, rifle)
* some form of martial art
* basic construction techniques
* fire building
* cooking over fire
* rock climbing & rappelling
* mending & sewing
* herbal-lore
* basic agri-science & storing of organics (canning,drying,pickling)
* mountain biking
* hunting,trapping & skinning
* tanning

I can't believe I've left off the most important thing on this list - BOOKS - on any and every *useful topic you can think of, starting with "how to" manuals, obviously.

*edit: One of my favorite scenes in an apocalyptic move - burning the tax code for warmth, in 'The Day After Tomorrow'.

Chuck Norris don't need books or any of that other stuff. Only tight pants and cowboy boots!

...being able to survive indoors without heat/food/water is not the same as being out in the woods in the same standing

...being able to survive indoors without heat/food/water is not the same as being out in the woods in the same standing

Done that too... it's common training with military here, SAS specifically, to be dropped in the middle of nowhere, with nothing, no pack, no rations, no compass or radio...

My ex husband taught my kids and I well... as did my adopted indigenous mother, how to survive in the australian bush.

I could survive with no problem...Ya just have to concentrate on getting food and water fromwhatever sources that are left. Without them you are dead meat!!!

Honey, trust me, single moms and their kids would be the last ones standing! We can build anything from nothing and make it last forever.

well ok, just saying they're not the same. starting a fire with sticks and catching food without weapons isn't as easy as you'd think

You don't have to kill things in order for them to be food. Plants are edible. I think a lot of you men are on an ego trip if you really believe women can't survive without you.
