I rarely use a marinade .. a great juicy steak is in timing and heat on the grill!

Some friends love steak marinated in italian dressing (not creamy) and grilled for a change of pace.

to go with the steak peel and slice potatoes put layer of potato on a piece of aluminum foil slice thin pats of butter season this layer with garlic and pepper add slices of onion seperated over it... repeat this twice in layers seal the foil wrap again in foil opposite to seal it tight. this can be made in one package or two smaller. cook on medium grill heat for an hour flipping the package after 30 minutes to the other side for even cooking. Everyone loves these .. you can add green peppers too for a change of pace.

Happy Grilling!

Sounds gooood.

A good steak doesn't need marinade is correct. the steak has to be seasoned shortly before grill time. It also must come to about room temp to get proper internal temp. Brush with a little oil on both side to insure great grill marks and flavor.
4 1/2 minutes each side, let sit for 5 to 10 minutes to allow juices to stablize. If you want a death steak than use marinade. If your cooking indoors, heat your oven to 400 degrees, Heat your skillet on med high heat, little olive oil and pan sear, place your sautee pan in the oven for 15 minutes, allow to sit for 10 minutes and tada! great steak, enjoy

This is 2 ways to cook steak, one being outdoors on a grill and the other indoors in a sautee pan. If you have questions please ask me. The above is for a Medium rare/warm center. I worked in restaurants most my life. Don't overcook as steak continues to cook up as it sits.

OK Bunnykins... help me out if you would then...

And remember, I ARE DUM so use small words and type slowly!

I don't know diddly about cooking.

How the heck do I make a decent steak on my stove? It's a gas stove - someone told me that makes a difference as far as my oven options go.

I've tried googling for help but there are so many conflicting ideas out there it makes my brain hurt.

sad sad sad

You take a frying pan/sautee pan thats oven proof
Heat the pan on the stove to a medium high heat
Season your room temp steak
Add a couple of tablespoons of olive oil or veg oil in the hot skillet
Sear the steak on one side for about 2 minutes
Turn steak over and place pan in a preheated 400 degree oven for 15 minutes
Remove Steak from pan and allow to sit for 5 to 10 minutes to allow juices to re-distrubute
This is based on a 1 1/2" cut of meat, hopefully you being using Filet, or Strip, Porterhouse
Perfect steak everytime
Any questions, please feel free to ask

Marinade-Olive oil 1/4cup, 5 to 6 cloves chopped garlic, fresh cracked pepper, Lavendar chopped fresh(not the flower portion), salt or sea salt, combine all and rub all over your steak, you can let it sit over night if you so desire for more intense favor. If you add any citric(like OJ, lemons, vinegar to the marinade note that it will start cooking the steak, if you do this you want to cook the steak within an hour or two.

Make a great topping for your steak-Unsalted butter brought to room temp, add rosemary, garlic, salt, or any fresh herbs like cilantro, mix well and chill well. When your steaks are done, cut a slice and put on steak for that extra goodness

There isn't anything wrong with using marinades

I prep up 9 10oz steaks with this:

Sautee 1/2cu chopped onions & 1/3cu crushed garlic in 1/8cu olive oil with a little (3tbs) red wine vinegar. Salt/pepper as you prefer. (I sometimes add a little soy/worc)
Allow to cool 5 mins...Transfer to marinade container (I use a big Tupperware bowl).
Slow stir, adding 4 beers (I prefer Sam Adams Boston Ale).
Perf then submerge steaks. Cover tightly.
For best results, refrigerate for at least 6hrs, or overnight.

Honey-2parts
whostechire-3parts...(i think thats how its spelled)
dejion mustard-1part
fresh rosemary-handfull
Beef stock reduced 1/2-1part....(beef+beef=mmmmmmmm)

I made this in parts so you can scale it for how much you are using. First rule of this ,or any, marinade is taste taste taste. If it dosent taste right off of the stake it wont taste right on the stake.
