random tidbit.. iwas the highest level of hourly supervisor for another retailer. when i started at walmart, my satrting wage as a cashieer was $0.10 HIGHER than as an hourly manager for the other retailer...

so just a thought... the pay isnt that bad..

happy very few people get paid their worth, you just had a slight leg up on someone who's getting even less of their true value.

btw, i had a friend who worked at walmart. he wasn't anything but a stocker, chemicals. the walmart he worked at treated all the nonmanagers like crap, constantly hiring and firing people. just this past xmas, they hired a bunch of people and cut everyone's hours way down...tell me that makes sense

A lot of the random crap you hear about Walmart is just that... crap.

True. When a company is that large, they will always be criticized, and alot of untrue stuff gets circulated.

It's always somebody's friend or friend of a friend who worked at Walmart that you hear complaints from. Never from the people who actually still work there. Wonder why that is?

ok... h&r... block cuts back hours in non tax seasons, but bulks up from january to may.... does this make sence?? yes it does, they schedule for the demand. demand in retail is greater during christmas, and less during january...

One store's management team is not necessarily reflective of an entire company.

well in this specific case, most all of the standard anti-walmart complaints were present

of course that makes sense, but that's not the same. they cut hours and hired people at the same time. cut some people's hours by almost half

I still work their, and I don't think they pay very well at all, they reduce hours all the time, keep staffing to an absolute minimum, some days I cover 3 departments. But I need my job, the area I live dosen't have much to offer. I will be with Wal-mart 5 yrs in june, and after my yearly eveluation, I'll break the $10 an hour mark

in what areas of the store, were these associates cros trained, and were they willing to cross train in other areas where the need for the hours were greater??

sometimes you gotta look at the whole situation and not just the tidbits..

Why would you stay there for 5 years making less than $10/hour then? Even if there isn't much to offer, there's got to be at least one job you're qualified for that pays better, right? Or are you simply not qualified for a higher paying job?

As with any large company, there are well managed stores and poorly managed ones. Though your friend's experience may not have been a good one, it is the fault of that specific management team...not necessarily the company as a whole. We have all worked for A$$holes at one time or another in our careers have we not?
