I'm in an area that I suppose could be considered Southern
(Nashville..haha) and it's illegal to use fireworks inside the city
limits. Do people do it anyway? Sure. Do the police do anything about
it? No. I have two dogs who are scared of fireworks. I keep them inside
during that time. I don't particularly like the noise myself. But the
colors are spectacular.

We have an annual 4th of July barbecue in my front yard with all the
neighbors from our cul-de-sac and we shoot off about $1,000 worth of
fireworks every year. It's beautiful! We do it in celebration of the
holiday and also because my NDN is an army veteran (still active) who
has served in Iraq twice already and now is working there as a civilian
mechanic. After it's over, all the guys get huge brooms and a big trash
can and clean it all up.

I don't think shooting off fireworks a couple times a year in
celebration of our freedom is really akin to "disturbing the peace."

police, especially in the bigger urban areas, have alot bigger crimes to
worry about than a few fireworks.

I really don't know alot of the states fireworks laws but in Brevard
County I know it is supposed to be illegal to buy or shoot them off
unless they are for scaring birds away, that is the only clause but
people freely buy and sell them all year long here

wha wha wha...In most Texas city limits, it is against the law to shoot
off fire works which must mean you live outside the city limits. I have
a ranch where these "stupid people" do much the same. My horses don't
like it. My dogs don't like it. And I don't like it so I break out my
shotgun and make my own fire works. When the BBs rain down upon there
heads they usually stop.

I hate to bother the police for personal disputes.

After I've already asked them nicely, explaining why its undesirable to
me, and informing them that its illegal, then if I still need to I'll
approach them again holding a digital camera set on "video record", and
politely ask them again to stop, etc, letting them know that the only
reason I'm recording the conversation is to have something to show the
police and maybe the judge. You don't have to sound threatening. If you
are sincere they will know the consequences to them are real.

You rarely need to call the police, and everyone saves time. Plus, some
people - while pissed off that you are ruining their fun - in the back
of their head they actually appreciate the fact that you took those
steps and gave them a chance to avoid getting the police involved (if
you are sincerely polite about it all).

But Lulu's idea is the best - hi-powered, long range sprinklers!
