I've been watching a lot of older movies lately. Chinatown, Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon... What are some of your favorite movies? How do you feel the movies made today stack up to movies made 30+ years ago?

Anything with Humphrey Bogart, Bette Davis, love old black and white movies. But, yeah, Casablanca, such a great film.

I think movies rely more on "wowing" folks with special effects, sex, blood and gore and less on actually writing a really good script.. When I watch Double Endemnity with Stanwick and McMurray, I dont need to see them "fkn" to know the heat that exists between them...they did it all with words and man was it hot!!!!
other favs:
Sunset Blvd
Picnic
Days of Wine and Roses
The Children's Hour
The Apartment
...oh, the list just goes on and on......

Old movies and old music ROCK! Did you know that Rocket 88 by Ike Turner was the first rock record? It was done by Sun Records in Memphis. Old movies are cool but there's good recent ones, too. My favorites are from the 60s and 70s, mostly. I'd recommend:

Babe
Serial Mom
Over the Rainbow
The Further Adventures of Baron Von Munchhausen
Little People
Rattataplan
That Barbara Streisand thing about the rocks. Oh yeah. It's called "What's up Doc."

Good luck finding some of those. Rattataplan was a silent movie popular in Italy in the mid 70s. I don't think you'll find it around here anywhere. And I don't know if Little People was the title of the movie. It was a Monty Python type of thing. Oh yeah. It was called "Time Bandits," not little people. Same difference.

I like the folk, pop and progressive rock of the 60s. 70s and 80s. I think the movies and music of the 1930s and 1940s set all of the good music and film after it into motion.
