There is absolutely no incentive whatsoever for the government or private industry to come up with alternatives. Only when people quit buying (and that'll never happen) will they have any incentive whatsoever to make any changes.

I have a friend in Germany who drives a volkswagen Jetta. He uses cooked vegetable oil to fuel his car. He drives up to restaurants and gets the kitchens to give him the used cooked oils to fill up his tank.

The price for doing this - free!

How much do gas prices have to be, before you can no longer afford it? It's 3.09 here right now.grumble

We're up to almost 3.20. And the answer to that is, I don't know. I drive as little as possible and my commute's not bad but there's only so much cutting back I can do. I bought a smaller, more fuel-efficient car. I'd buy a hybrid, but I can't afford one. Eventually, though, if it keeps up, I'm going to have to figure something out.

Yeah I drive as little as possible too. My car gets ok gas mileage. I have a toyota camry. But being in a small country town where everything is a country mile to get to, it would be impossible for me to go without. Especially because of my baby.

Do you think the Government, or private Corps, can come up with a new cheaper way to power our car, and trucks? Do you have any ideas?

A situation has been brought about so it's not possible. There are no real communities any more. We live in a facist(I hope that spelled right) state. Unfortunitly, it doesn't look like there is a good way around it. Hate to be a Debbie downer, but we're phucked. In a bad way.

Yup, me too. Well, I don't live in the country but I do have a kid. I could take the bus but it costs more and takes 3x as long as driving in does. I don't know. I guess we just do the best we can.

I meant to reply to a quote. So this will be taken out of context. Oh, well.

Congratulations. I have a 7 year old and a 6 month old. Both girls. They are the soul of my life. I suppose they will have to pay the government for air space to fly to work like the Jetsons

Yeah, do what we can. This is the time of life, where people of our age need to do something about it, so it doesn't effect our children. too bad I have no ideas.

I love the uninformed that quote things out of context. The reason the prices go up and down are based on quantity available. So if 2-3 refineries go down for maintenance or what have you, there's less gas avaiable, thus a higher price. If people are so mad at the oil companies, stop your f'in whining, sell your car, and ride a bike.

supply and demand.

In the little city I live, pretty much everyone drives a big truck or SUV.
