Hiya Misty! Yep, it's plumbing again!
Yeah JT, with an older house you never know what you're getting into if you start digging around. Just for a day or two and just a foot or so down wouldn't matter, but you're asking for other problems with a 70 year old foundation. well i have plumbing that needs to be taken care of too

well i'm thinking the leak or whatever could be coming from where the pipe goes does through the basement floor.there's like some hardened foam stuff around it but i'm wondering if maybe some of it broke off and is allowing water to come back up from the ground?

Actually JT I seriously doubt that drain pipe is the problem. There's always a chance an old connector or elbow somewhere is broken but more likely it's just ground water seeping up around the pipe. That foam is more for insulation than for sealing. You could chip that foam out of there and smear in some kind of sealant - find a concrete sealer mix. Basements of old houses are damp, leaky, and musty. It's just a fact of life.
