they just need to do their job U.S. falls in education rank compared to other countries Story posted: 10-04-2005 07:07 By Elaine Wu U-Wire The United States is falling when it comes to international education rankings, as recent studies show that other nations in the developed world have more effective education systems. In a 2003 study conducted by UNICEF that took the averages from five different international education studies, the researchers ranked the United States No. 18 out of 24 nations in terms of the relative effectiveness of its educational system. http://kapio.kcc.hawaii.edu/upload/fullnews.php?id=52 maybe they should be paid at the level just below the 17th ranked country |

PAGE ONE -- U.S. Teens Rank Low in World Tests
High school students dismal in math, science Nanette Asimov, Chronicle Staff Writer Wednesday, February 25, 1998 (02-25) 04:00 PST STATEWIDE -- In the most complete international study of schooling ever conducted, U.S. high school seniors ranked near the bottom in math and science, reflecting what educators call a crisis in American education. The dismal results, released yesterday, are the latest part of the Third International Mathematics & Science Study (TIMSS). U.S. educators said the study points out the critical need for stronger graduation standards and much improved teacher education. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/1998/02/25/MN54903.DTL&type=printable |

On the science portion, U.S. students, most of them 10th-graders, received an average score of 489 on a 1,000-point scale, 11 points below the average of the 30 countries. Canada, Japan and Korea were among the countries in which students outperformed U.S. counterparts. U.S. students were on par with peers in eight countries and outperformed those from five others.
In math, only four countries had average scores lower than the United States. Students in 23 countries had a higher average score, and those in two countries did about the same as the Americans. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/12/04/AR2007120400730.html |

show me where i said cut the pay
they should earn their pay they work 9 months a year and can work at something else the other 3 months so at $40,000 a year calif is 53 and south dakota is 31 so 40 makes the math a little easier 40,000 divided by 9 = 4444.44 per month a month ave. 4.3 weeks so the teacher is making over $1000 a week that is not so bad in the summer they pick up a $8-12 an hour job and they make enough to get through the summer but most of the teachers i know work under the table and make more than that |

1. Pay them $100,000 per year
2. If their students don't meet the standards at the end of the year, then a.)Reduce their salary b.) Fire the teacher 3. Skills testing for teachers (annual) The public school system (excluding the teachers) is a flushing toilet with the handle stuck and sucking money. |

Being a teacher I am reading your screen name to be: adj. (adjective) 4 (for) U (you) Correct???? Boy do I have an adjective in my mind for you, seeing how you've been soooooo full of adjectives describing "US" teachers!!!!! If you want to know some of them and got the guts to "listen" email me and I'll tell ya!!! I like chuck's grandfather's saying. |

I would like ANYONE to come into my classroom for one whole day and "REALLY" see what we do. And by the way we teach 10 months, not 9!!! Then I teach 6 wks. out of the 8 1/2 we have off, with one wk. prepping for summer school and the other wk prepping for reg. school to start. Where's my vacation???? I try to take advantage of the breaks we have off during the sch. year, but generally can't very often.

As a parent, I see both sides of this issue. However, I will say that most of the teachers who teach my son are incredibly dedicated, routinely coming in early, staying late, working weekends and holidays, using their own personal time to help struggling students. And they are grossly underpaid. I'm a secretary and I make almost twice as much as a starting teacher does in my area. And they are doing a job I'm not capable of doing and am not willing to do, teach my son. Are they perfect? Nope, who is? But they do the best they can with the limited resources they have. And I think they all deserve a round of applause and a huge pay raise for doing such a thankless job.

Thank you very much ((((suz))) I've been working on my taxes today and I was able to only claim spending $250 on stuff for my classroom, well guess what???? I spent $1200. Am I complaining??? NO, NO, NO, ..... I know that my special ed. students learn best w/ handson materials and the sch. DOES NOT have the resources I need, so I go out of my way all the time and buy things, cuz I love my students and I care, and I want them to do well on the state tests and the NY State Alternate Assessment test. Could I use that $1200 somewhere else???? Hel_ yeh!!! How about going away over easter or spring break, but I can't cuz I don't have the $ to do it. BUt I don't care, my students are more precious than a selfish trip. |
