ahhh, I spent my ?? years as a medic

the BOMARCS HAD a bad habit of deciding to launch themselves from what I
understand. They were stored in concrete shelters with an erector inside. only fast work from the groundcrews saved us from a really bad mess more than a few times. Also was an incident where a missile caught fire during fueling and spewed plutonium all over the site. They concreted over the contaminated tarmac to encapsulate the radioactivity. |

yah. makes you wonder how many messes there are like that on the old
sites. The one in RACO Michigan, in the Eastern UP, IS ON AN ABANDONED WW2 Emergency airfield. there was a network of these sites on our northern border in the 50s thru the 70s. Before the BOMARCS, THIS SITE had Skysweeper Anti aircraft guns. |
