Not that I really think anybody will really care about this story except to make one wonder........

The sons / daughters of how many American politicians are in Iraq/Afghanistan?
I remember reading a good many years ago (damn I feel old) that no U.S. politician's son served in Vietnam ( or nephew even if I remember correctly).

Prince Harry deployed in Afghanistan

February 29 2008 at 01:38AM

London - Prince Harry has been serving with the British army in Afghanistan for more than two months, the Defence Ministry said on Thursday.

Following leaks in the international media about his deployment, officials are now reviewing whether he should remain there. Harry, third in line to the British throne, was sent to Afghanistan with his regiment in December.

The 23-year-old was due to be sent to Iraq but those plans were scrapped in May. His deployment was cancelled after it was decided it would be too dangerous for the second son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana.

Militant groups threatened to kidnap or kill him after it was made known that his regiment could be deployed to Iraq.

The Ministry of Defence determined he could be deployed to Afghanistan if his presence there was not reported. For the past 10 weeks, British and international media have maintained an embargo on reporting his activities.

Harry has been responsible for calling in air strikes against Taliban positions in the dangerous southern Afghanistan province of Helmand, has conducted foot patrols through local villages and has fired on suspected enemy combatants, pool photographs and footage have shown.

The head of the army, General Richard Dannatt, issued a statement expressing his disappointment that the embargo had been broken by foreign media websites, including some in the United States and Germany.

"In deciding to deploy him to Afghanistan, it was my judgment that with an understanding with the media not to broadcast his whereabouts, the risk in doing (so) was manageable," Dannatt said.

"Now that the story is in the public domain, the chief of staff and I will take advice from the operational commanders about whether his deployment can continue.

"I now appeal to the media to restrain from attempting to report Prince Harry's every move and return to our understanding."

Another little after thought....Is spilling that he there responsible media? It does after all expose not only himself but his unit to more fire / danger since Harry is a 'cible de choix' (target of choice).

Another copy of the story I found but with reader comments. Judging from one of the comments it would seem that my memory of what I had read was correct.

"Now let's see a Senator's or Congressman's son / daughter in Vietnam - er, make thtat Afagnasian - or Iraq fot that matter.

Robin Datta, Fresno , CA"

That or trying to to reach another agreement with the media to back off and let him do his job. If the media can't / won't back off then he's off to Wales.
They are going to have one very unhappy Prince / soldier. He argued long and hard to be able to be with his unit.

sick umm excuse me, but didnt Al Gore serve a couple months over in Vietnam.. you know his dad Al Gore Sr. was the senator at the time of Tennessee.

*Senator Tim Johnson (D- South Dakota)
(son, Brooks, Served in Iraq and Afghanistan Wars and now works as an Army recruiter. )

*Former Senator & Attorney General John Ashcroft (R- MO)
His son, Andy, is in the Navy and has served in the GulF in support of the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars.
This is a little known fact, because Ashcroft did not want to bring unwanted attention to his son and of course the left-leaning media never did a story on it, because that would hurt their agenda of hurting him.

*Senator Christopher Bond (R - Missouri)
(son, Sam, is in the U.S. Marines and is currently serving in IRAQ.)Kit Bond’s son leaves for Iraq Marine duty

*Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-California)
(son, Duane, is a U.S. Marine and Served in IRAQ)

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-South Carolina)

John McCain's support of the troops Surge has actually sent his own son, Jimmy, to Baghdad.

You asked, I thought I would help out, or was it a rhetorical question?happy

also just a little tid bit, a nugget of knowledge if you will, even tho it is 12 to 4 rep to dem, the number as a percentage of their sons verses the populous' sons is much much higher. That is to say per capita there are more of their kids serving than the regular folks.

Thanks Doc. It wasn't a rhetorical question. I was really wondering. I had read long ago about politicians kids getting out of Vietnam and had also been told that by a vet. Was wondering if there were any this time on deployment.

I cannot argue with Webb's war record and the fact that he is fighting for educational benefits for our military. However, when it comes to his treatment of women, the guy is a scumbag.

Webb's been married three times .... something wrong there.
His novels tend to have lots of sexual content ..... okay, if one is into that. However, the part that disturbs many is that Webb's novels include graphic references to female anatomy and purported pedophilia, homosexuality and incest. The passages in Webb's novels are meant to demean women. I have no use for men who enjoy demeaning women, and it is too bad the electorate couldn't find someone else in Virginia in lieu of Webb.
